Dear Bumblebee,
I'm glad you have found us.
We've all been through this, usually with a parent or a grandparent but also with a spouse. The time right after a diagnosis or a suspicion of Alzheimer's is the worst time. You are so upset and so confused.
I'm not sure how it is in Scotland, but there is probably an Alzheimer's Organization or even a local support group you could contact. They will have many ideas on how to deal with specific problems.
If you look through this site you'll find answers to many questions, how people deal with stopping the person driving a car, get a person's guns away from him, keep him clean against his protests etc.
May I ask how old your Grandfather is? Is there any chance of getting him into a good nursing home specializing in AD? My Mom is in such a place and very happy there. She is in about Stage 6 (see list above.)
Who is his main caregver? Does he still have a wife, or is he with one of his children, or alone? All those things make a difference in how to continue his care.
Good luck, you are a good granddaughter to be so concerned...
Love,
Martha

My granda is 86 and lives with my gran who looks after him but myself and my parents along with my sisters are only 5mins away in the car so someone is alway there if needed. We are not sure what stage he is at but im guessing about stage 4 or 5 maybe. A care home is not on the aggenda as yet, dont think my gran would like him out the house just now but we are keeping this opption in mind. We do have an alzheimers Scotland which i have been in touch with and they are sending out information for us to read through. Just didn't know were to start have e-mailed just about everyone from allsorts help groups. Anyway thank you for your reply and i will keep in touch and let you know how we are getting on, again Thank You .:)
