We just brought a new dachshund puppy home and I have what I think is an allergy. I need your advice!
My symptom is a hair-like tickle feeling on the back of my tongue. I've had it since the first 10 minutes I brought her in my car, and I constantly feel like I need to clear my throat.
I've never had an allergy to dogs before- even while visiting the breeder, I never had this symptom.
It's the same feeling I get when I wear a wool sweater.
Someone mentioned it's lanolin that is in the wool that causes the wool-like feeling at the back of my throat....
Are the two related??
We got the puppy groomed, and I am wondered if there is a CHANCE it's the grooming shampoo that contains lanolin. I called the company that makes the shampoo and the chemist said there isn't lanolin in the product (Hartz' puppy grooming shampoo)
ANYONE else have this feeling.. ever??
My partner is also starting to feel this sensation... and before we have to return the puppy or give her away, we're desperate to have another option.

Remove the puppy from your home for 2 weeks. Let someone take care of the puppy during this time. Then, bring the puppy back into your home and see if the same sympoms appear again.

My little infant grandson was allergic to the family cat. While he was visiting for 2 weeks out of state he was fine. As soon as he returned home he was sick again. They got rid of the cat and furniture with cat hair. The little guy bailed out and could breathe right again.

You may want to get some allergy testing done to know for sure.

aww, how sad. I've always been allergic to cats and dogs, break out in hives, specially from cats. I can tolerate some dogs though. We have a Yorkie and I only break out when I bathe him or when he licks me.
