I don't know if you can answer it or not.I take quinine for muscle spasms. The original dosage was 325 mgs at night. Now the neuro has increased it to 325 mgs 3 times a day.I have internet researched that quinine can cause optical neuritis and ringing in the ears. Not good for MS patients. To add to it ,it causes hypoglycemia.I've contacted my neuro and GP,my blood sugar is not over 68,even after 8 hours fasting. It has been around 54 since starting the increase, plus the ringing in the ears has increased I can't even hear the TV and I have basically lost most of the vision in my left eye, everything is blurred and grey in color. My DRs are saying it takes 30 days for the increased dosage to be effective.Like I said I don't know if you know anything about this med,but the way I feel,is not normal. Thanks a bunch

Nuffs ....Isn't Quinine also used for malaria?? Anyway i would be terrible when it comes to drugs (knowledge) as i fight my neuropathy all natural by diet and supplements. The early yrs of my disease when i knew not better i was on ivig (immunoglobulin) at the hospitol 4 times a month at 5 hours a setting. Didn't do anything for me .Then i read an article about 7 yrs ago on Mens Fitness Magazine (sucess stories) about a guy who came down with MS and so he radically changed his diet (swank type) and took fish oils and evening primrose oils and lost his big beer belly and started cardio and weight lifting and within a few months he gave up all cortisteroids and was in remission and thriving so that was the first time i realise that diet/supps could alter Neurological diseases and not just Cardio or Cancer diseases so i appologize but my knowledge on meds is poor at best....
For those muscle spasm's have you tried a good Calcium/Magnesium formula to see if that would help a little as i know that your MS is probably the cause . Also didn't the FDA allow Tysabri to be reapproved again after the recall. I've heard people swear about that being the saviour of MS. Keep searching....Take Good Care !........

Nuffs, I agree w/6'3" regarding the magnesium and calciums, BUT, I suggest you check out various sites as to the types of each that are most asorbable, meaning the easiest for you to take into your system.
Also How are you doing in the Potassium corner? Try a banana [one of the better sources, as are plain'ol baked potatoes] or two and see if that helps. IF not...really make a list of all your supplements and copy out all their ingredients and see how much of EACH needed item you are getting. Some, can be too much! Further, some meds [most for me, don't know about you] work well or really not well with some vits. & minerals. When they don't, the supplements can work against your meds by lessening their effects or zeroing them out. Read the fine print on your meds..the good stuff is usually at the very end in: a, 'oh, by the way...', I forgot, kind of presentation.
Are the spasms that bad to be on the quinine? Is it helping? Some neuro meds DO have that s/e..for me it was Neurontin. I'm on something else now. Let all know how you're faring. It's very confusing, as this affects that, which causes, the other to do - whatever. Ask away!

Dahlek,
I eat a banana's and potato's.I have chronic spasms, and the quinine was okay until they increased it to 3 times a day.Went to ER last night, quinine poisoning. Now the damage to the fine nerves in the ears could be permanant. They seriously doubt if the tinnitis will ever go a away.Antivert lessoned it.The other meds baclofen and zanaflex help with the spasms, but not enough.
I will be checking on the suppliments.
Neurontin wasn't for me either.
