I was tested for diabetes a few days ago (standard testing for 28th week of pregnancy). The levels in my blood were fine, however it turns out I have a bladder infection but on top of that the level of glucose in my urine was VERY high. It was 56 where it should be less then 3 haha.... yah. So from what I gather, this means kidney damage or disease. My guess is damage.

So now, I ask you... how is this fixed? How do you fix a damaged kidney? What do you suspect the doctor will do now? Beside give me antibiotics for my UTI. What does this mean for the future?

Glucose in the urine does NOT mean kidney damage. It means diabetes. Since you are pregnant, it would seem to suggest gestational diabetes. Unless you are spilling a lot of protein, you don't need to worry about your kidneys at this point.

I would suggest posting on the diabetes board here and you will get some good info. Sorry, I'm a type 1 diabetic and don't know too much about gestational diabetes. I do know that some women are required to take insulin during their pregnancy and then don't after the child is born. You do need to keep your sugars under control or you can have some problems and the child may be born extremely large with other problems too.

Has your blood sugar been measured? That is a much more accurate and important reading.

Good luck.

Cora
