Hi,

I have peripheral neuropathy in the arms and legs. It began about 10 years ago. The legs are worse than the arms. I used to be able to walk 30 minutes every other day for exercise. Now, I find that if I walk twenty minutes, I am exhausted the next day. Is this common and, other than doing less, is there anything else I can do to keep myself mobile? Neurologists don't know what causes it? I can handle the numbness but, the loss of strength is a whole other story.

Your comments please.

Mbs...It sure sounds like CIDP (chronic inflammatory demyelinating neuropathy) as this an autoimmune neuropathy where the T-Cells are attacking the Myelin Sheath and the symptoms are numbness and weakness in the arms and legs.Your neurologist doesn't know whats causing this well a lumbar puncture will confirm or deny this by checking the ''protein levels'' in the fluid so i'd ask to have this done .......

Hi 6foot3,

Thanks for replying and the suggestion. I'll call him tomorrow and check it out. I'm seeing a new neurologist because my old one dropped my insurance carrier. I'll keep you and the board informed after I learn what's going on. One day at a time.

Hi NHone,

That is an excellent question. Actually, after reading all the messages on the board relating to how it was possible for colesterol meds to bring on muscle weakness, this past Thurs. I stopped taking my Zetia 10mg PM. Thanks to all of the people who discussed these products in length.
