I have a 6mm stone in the mid pole of my left kidney (diagnosed by US). I had an IVP and it did not show up?? does anyone have an idea as to why? My blood in urine on the last result was 17. I am having a ct scan soon and I'm worried that they may be looking for something more sinister!
Some stones are made of uric acid and do not show well on an IVP. The CT will discover this type of stone, especially one that is 6mm. The good news :) is that uric acid stones can be disolved (unlike the calcium variety) without the need for lithotripsy or other surgeries. Of course, you and your doctor must come up with your treatment plan. Good Luck.

I am a repeat stone sufferer. My stones are calcium oxalate monohydrate and funny enough they never show up on KUB anymore. I actually had my last lithotripsy cancelled because the doc said I passed it. After I insisted on a CT Scan, they were all still there. Stones can hide behind bowel patterns and such.

I've been creating kidney stones for eight years. It feels like there is a kidney stone in my ureter since April. Yet, it never shows up on any kind of film. When I start having pain on the right side I just freeze up. I get so scared and it hurts so bad. I just go lay down and drink as much water as I can. My urologist says there is no kidney stone on the right side. If it's not a kidney stone and its something else, I sure hope I don't have to live with this for the rest of my life.

Ok here's the last update! I had a 6mm stone, it was clearly seen on USS as a white triangular calculi. It was not on the IVU and remarkabley not evn on the Ct scan! However they did find a few simple cysts on the left kidney which my urologist said to ignore. I had cystoscopy this morning and the bladder is well & healthy but my urine still shows a value of 30rbc?? I have now been discharged and no wiser to why I had Hematuria in the first place:(
