Hi everyone,

I just turned 35 and I feel like the old CP body is 90... Most of the problems can I think be solved by some time in the whirlpool, but I am having issues with my right foot. I have never had hammer toes, and all of the sudden I do. Has anyone else dealt with this... I did see the doctor and he told me was more or less part of the game. I am looking for some practicle solutions.

I had a had one on my right foot (second toe). I got it surgically corrected and that was the biggest mistake ever! It didn't really bother me before, but now it does. Sure, it's straight, but they had to take out the middle bone and fuse the joint so it doesn't bend anymore... it just snaps. It is almost constantly broken and I trip over it more easily now. I do have a little more movement in my toes now because they released a tendon in my foot, but over all my foot is weaker because of it.

I have had hammer toes all of my life. All of them but my 3rd toes have straightened out to a degree by themselves. I was having severe pain with the 3rd toe on my right side, and the podiatrist wanted to operate. I asked about mobility and balance and he said that those issues would most likely improve. I thought it over and decided against the surgery because he said that one of his patients with cp has had multiple operations on her toes. I was in PT at the time, and the PT didn't overtly advise against the surgery, but she said to really think about it. I'm not a fan of sitting still and thought the recovery period would be torture.

Hey Joe! I'm 16 with spastic right hemiparesis, but can relate to the "feeling 90" thing, even though my family makes fun of me.

My toes aren't naturally hammertoes; they straighten. However, occasionally when I move my foot the wrong way/step on it after a long period of rest/stretch it accidentally, a muscle/tendon (still not sure what it is at this point) spasms almost instaneously and actively partially PULLS my toes underneath my foot so that they appear to be hammertoes. This is very painful and renders me unable to move until the spasm abates. We think this may be related to the fact that I wore an AFO for ten years, and haven't worn one for about 6.
