Hi my names Karina. I have detoxed from oxycontin and vicodin about 2 times in the past two months (not icluding the other times in the past 2 years) and every time i feel better i get high again. Now i am going through withdrawals. I cant sleep. i know there is probably nothing i can do to reduce the anxiety and the sleeplessness but i hope that maybe somebody knows something i dont. i have tried benadryl, tylenol pm, taking a bath watching tv and none of it works. i feel even worse everytime i try to sleep and i dont. any advice on how to take care of myself as i withdraw and to lessen my symptoms?

I feel for ya Karina. I recently quit oxy's and didn't sleep for a few weeks. I'd suggest not trying, keep your mind off it. I know every time I layed down when I couldn't sleep it just drove me crazy. I spent most of my time at night on here and other various web sights

Melatonin worked for me after I quit drinking. It is available in the vitamin section of your market. Moderately priced and effective and I had no side effects. It was suggested to me by my Dr.

Hey Karina...I know how it feels not being able to sleep. The more you try, the more irritated you get. When I was coming off tramadol (not as strong as oxys but then again, some would say it's even worse due to its ssri properties), I was using vick's nyquil and alcohol to "tire myself out" and it worked for me for the first couple of days until major WDs passed (I was tapering). But as said by many on these boards, these are crutches so after the 3rd day or so, I decided to not use anything anymore except for major doses of liquid vitamins/minerals. I'm sure you know although your mind might forget at times....this will pass. Sleep is simply too strong of a need for the body...the trick is to not force/try to sleep since that will only irritate you. It's like worrying that you worry that you worry. If the "crutches" I used help at first, WATCH YOURSELF so you don't use them longer than that but I think long-term, it's better to just go through it; it leaves quite a mark on your memories...the worst it is, the less you will want to do it again. Let us know how you do. ;)
