I recently learned my ex boyfriend has herpes. We haven't slept together in over a year and only once, for seconds, had sex unprotected. I am panicking because I have had a sore throat for three weeks. I went to my doctor, who did a strep test (negative), and who told me I have lesions on my throat. She told me it is probably a virus but now, a week later, it is no better and no worse. From all I read online, sores cause by Herpes are on, and around the mouth and tongue; not the throat. Is this true? I don't know what to do and am panicking I have Herpes. I already have HPV and can find no information that this could be related.

I highly doubt that your sore throat is related to herpes. Just because you are with someone that has herpes doesn't mean you just automatically catch it. But the only way to put your mind to rest is to ask your doctor to give you the herpes blood test, the IgG test. I would say that this lingering sore throat could be due to many viruses. I have never heard of HPV causing a sore throat either. HPV generally causes no symptoms unless you have the strain that causes genital warts.
