I was diagnosed BP in '91, have severe PMS, and now going through menopause. I was off meds for a year and then hit the bottom. I am starting back on Wellbutrin and the psychiatrist has mentioned adding Lamectal as a mood stabilzer. I am having a difficult time with all of this, but am glad to be back on meds. Thanks for any input.

Been on as much as 600Mg a day. Just got off the drug totally. It works very well, especially during the day, at least for me it did.

I have been too high over the past 6 months, so I pulled myself off of it. I think 200 is the pretty standard dosage.

Best of Luck!

I take 200 mgs of Lamictal as part of my med regime. I am a Bipolar I, and typical antidepressants send me into mania. That became a problem until my Doctor tried Lamicital. At that time, it was being used off-label for BP depression, as it was only approved by the FDA for use as an anti seizure medication. Now, the FDA has approved it for the use in Bipolar depression. It also seems that less it better with Lamictal. I used to take up to 600 mgs years ago, and now 200 mgs is the suggested dosage for maximum performance. It worked with me very well, and I have been on this dose for about 2 years. I have a couple of very good websites on this if anyone would want them, you can e-mail me.

Hey Fawn, how long did it take for the Lamictal to really kick in for you? Also, I'd love to know the web sites. Is it OK to post them on the board?

Lamictal works like a miracle. You start off with 25mg day for the first 2 weeks, 2x25mg day for next 2 weeks and then 100mg day the fifth week. (Most docs & psychs can give you a free 5 week starter test kit). The generic (Lamotrigine) is
available on the web from Canadian pharmacies at savings of 70%. I tried every drug on the market and this was the only one that worked. It saved my life.

I am back on it. Earlier posted that I got off it, but I really crashed hard without it. Death was knocking on my door everyday. I read the post "I am cured" and decided to go back on 100mg. I am feeling much better. At one time I was up to 600mg. I am BP II in a big way. I don't think I will try to go without it again.

Best of Luck

I'm not BP1 but for what it's worth, I'm bipolar II and ADHD. I've been on Lamictal for going on 3 weeks now and it seems to even out my moods with no side effects that I'm aware of. I'm also on Wellbutrin (starting my 2nd week) for ADHD. My doc seems to think the Wellbutrin will help my focusing and distractivness ...can't say that I'm seeing any results there yet but it's helping with the depression though.

I have had the same experience as CoolBlewEyz. I am on the depressed side of bipolar but SRIs make me manic and cut myself. Lithium is good for suppressing mania but it does nothing for my depression. Though I was reluctant to go on Lamictal because of the complications (the deadly rash), it has greatly improved my mood as far as depression and if you are having those same problems I'd highly reccomend it.

My mother-in-law takes Lamictal. It helps a lot with her depressions. The problem is, as soon as her mood improves, she stops taking it, so we end up with a manic woman for extremely long periods (right now she's been going for about a month). As soon as depression hits her again she gets back on her meds. I guess the Lamictal would help control some of her euphoria but we'll never find out.
