 Hello everyone. I just found this board through Google. I am hoping my experiences with neuropathy and my doctors will help someone else.

I have diabetes. I've been good with my diet, and have even lost weight. But, my sugar was always going crazy. Our family doctor told me I was just one of those unlucky people who are unable to get under control.

Then I began having trouble with neuropathy. I went to a specialist in the disorder who tested me, and diagnosed it. I had shooting pain, numbness, difficulty walking, electric shock in my toes, and loss of sleep due to pain.

That's where I was when I lost our Family Doctor. He passed away suddenly. I found a new family clinic, and we began going there. The clinic was owned and run by a top cardiologist, but the clinic had two regular doctors, a pain management specialist, nurse practicioners, and a total diagnostic center.

I saw the cardiologist due to heart palpitations, irregular heartbeat, etc. During a test it was seen that I have cysts on my right thyroid. So he sent me to an endocrinologist. He is one of those doctors that you find yourself in awe of. On my first visit, he walked in, held out his hand for a shake, and said: Hello, call me Finn. His first name. What doctor ever told me to be on a first name basis on a first visit? None!

He tested me on the thyroid. The cysts were benign, and follow-up has been easy. No problems.

Well, as an endocrinologist, he began discussing my diabetes. I told him how I'm never in control. He immediately changed my medications (not insulin) and my sugar has remained in beautiful control ever since. First success!

Then he discussed the neuropathy with me (which he had confirmed). He told me that he'd been in research/education for some years before deciding to go into full practice. He knew of a study done that said to remove all fruit from the diet. Juices, fresh, frozen, etc. NO FRUIT. He told me he'd treated many people like myself, and this worked with most patients. He told me to try it. He said to give it a couple of months. He also told me that (despite what other specialists had told me about progression) that if this works for me, it will REVERSE the neuropathy. I was shocked, and quite frankly, disbelieving. Yet, I decided to try it. What's the harm?

Before three months had gone by, ALL of my symptoms of neuropathy were GONE! I talked to my Cardiologist, who told me that he'd sent at least 150 patients to the Endocrinologist, and most of them had told him the SAME thing. I have no idea why I've not seen anything about this anywhere else! I've searched and searched. Nothing! I cannot believe this is working but no one seems to know about it!

I promise nothing to anyone. But, I highly reccommend people try this and see if it works for them. Remember I am a diabetic. I have no idea if it works for other types of neuropathy. It's just worth a try.

Good luck, and God Bless all. I would love to hear if it works for anyone else.

I've been preaching the sugar/high carb and neuropathy connection for a long time. High carbs just destroy my feet while low glycemic carbs and high intensity exercise keeps my neuropathy in remission...Any slip up and i feel it in my feet so i just eat well for health and longevity along with tons of supplements. No drugs for me..... Be Well........

I'm really glad that has worked for you. I'm a little hesitant about the claim of reversing neuropathy. I've also read how bee pollen and vinegar can both reverse neuropathy.

For diabetics, the decrease in simple and complex (fruit) sugars can make a big difference. For those without diabetes, eliminating simple sugar can also make a big difference.

It's certainly worth a try but I wonder about eliminating good fruits such as blueberries.

Hello Susan. I LOVE blueberries as well as most other fruits! I grilled my endocrinologist quite specifically about my favs, blueberries, watermelon, cantaloupe, etc, etc. As to the blueberries: He said he believed in it's good qualities, but for this particular purpose I had to eliminate even them. Every single fruit in all forms. I've done that. He also said if it worked, it would reverse the symptoms. It has done that fully for me. I no longer have any of my former pain, numbness, or anything else! I cannot explain it. I only know what this has done for me.

6ft3---Do you have diabetes? I'm wondering if how you've eliminated certain kinds of sugar might work for people without diabetes. I do NOT have diabetes.

Thank you!

SarahNina...i do not have diabete's...My blood sugar levels are good as well as my total cholesterol profile I workout 5/6 days a week and with no fat on me and muscular. Yet for some reason high carb foods just tear my feet up so maybe these things are genetic in nature. Some people can thrive on high carbs or vegan diets as others thrive on high fat like atkins but for me i have to have carbs or i'll bonk out badly yet too much and my body just revolts badly so i have to find a balence. Anyway i'll keep researching these biotech companies info of new medicines coming out over the next 5 to 10 to 20 yrs....(DNA medicines,Gene therapies,Stem cells, Nano medicines etc...)....Later !!...

TeddyBrGr, I have a question. You said that the doctor changed your medications and got your diabetes sugar level under control, so my question is this: Could this be what caused your painful neuropathy symptoms to disappear, and not the absence of fruit in your diet? I am a type 2 diabetic and have my numbers under control, yet I still have to take massive amounts of Lyrica to just function. I know that I'll just have to live with the numbness, but I'm very interested in pursuing any medication free method that may help the pain.

Hi Tight Socks. I'd had a number of meds over the last few years. This doctor got it right, finally. All I can say to you is that no fruit is what he told me to do. I don't really think it's the meds. I would tell anyone interested in relief to go ahead and try this for a couple months, and see if it helps you. What's the harm?
