Hi! I was wondering if anyone has any helpful hints on potty training? My son is 4 and is slowly starting to make some progress. The problem I am having is that when he does need to go he will sit there and try to hold it as long as possible. When he finally looses control, he will just pee a little at a time like he is scared to let it all go. Most of the time he doesn't get it all out and then has an accident later. When he does pee or poop on the potty he will look down in the toilet and shiver all over (every time) like he can't candle what just happened. I'm there are sensory issues involved. Any suggestions on how to ease his tension? Thanks for listening!

Hi Jakey,

Have you seen the book, Toilet Training for Individuals with Autism and Related Disorders by Maria Wheeler. This books has many TT tips for kids on the spectrum -- some for sensory issues, some for behavioral issues. I suggest checking with your local public library, to see if they have it. If they don't have the book, the information/reference desk may be able to obtain it for you from another library through a service called interlibrary loan. Of course, you could always check bookstores for the title or order it off the net.

Best wishes.
