I have recently diagnosed with Early Menopause (age 39) but still having severe symtpoms so my Dr. ordered more blood tests. Everything is normal except my MCH is 3x elevated at 101 (Normal is 27-33). Now I am having more labs for anemias. I live on red meat and eggs and spinach plus take a multivitamin daily.
What does an elevated MCH 101 mean?

are you sure it's not your MCV that's elevated to 101?

Oops. That is what the nurse kept telling me. However, I just picked up my results are:
MCV 101 (Normal 78-99)
MCH 34.7 (Normal 27-31)

Does this mean anything?

I have been told I have severe anemia and my MCH is 25.5 scale is 27.0-34.0 I don't know what yours would mean though. i would be interested in finding out what yours means though.

I must be beyond SEVERE! my MCH is 19.5. This is awful, the weird thing is my numbers seems to be lower than everyone else, but I feel pretty good, wouldn't know that I anemic if I hadn't gone to the GYNO, waiting on more blood work. My ferritn.etc..I will keep reading here it is very helpful.

Those numbers are just like mine. Of course, the docs say "you're fine." I'm not willing to accept that. So far, I've learned that this signifies poor producrion in the marrow, most commonly from low folic acid and/or B12. So they tested those, and they seem OK. But it could also be from endocrine problems (thyoid etc) and some other rare conditions/diseases. I've also read that low body temp (that's me) can cause low production in the marrow of the long (leg) bones...quite interesting...but not sure if this is just a theory or what...
