My surgery last Wednesday went well. A mitek achor was put into the bone and the disc was stitched down using the achor. I didn't have to have a muscle graft to replace the disc. My disc was in good shape, just no longer on the joint.
I have had minimal bruising and swelling. I did get a slight black eye, but it was more swollen and red - it never got "black & blue." I haven't had any pain meds since Sunday. I did keep ice on the area for the first 5-6 days and I stayed propped up when resting or at night. My doctor was surprised at how good my face looked.

So far so good! My stitches were taken out today. It wasn't a very big incission. I had 12 stitches. I was really getting tired of the liquids, so I was so glad to hear from the doctor today that I could have mashed up pastas or pretty much anything that I didn't have to chew.

I am sore and have some muscle spasams. Mostly discomfort now, not pain.

Just thought I'd update you guys. Thanks for the well wishes and prayers.

that sounds great! you had almost the exact same surgery I did. The anchor is working very well for me, but unfortunately I am having problems with the right TMJ now... But, I really like the mitek anchor. I am still suprised at how big of difference it made. I had complications after my surgery and didn't wake up for a week after it, so in an odd way, it was furtunate that I did not have to experience all the bruising and swelling. I was amazed when I woke up at how much better my jaw felt-- pain free! Amazing!

I will pray that you continue to experience good results.

I live in NC and saw a doctor in FL that said I need arthroplasty on both sides. Disk replacement. I am trying to locate other surgeons that do this procedure so I can get a 2nd, 3rd opinion etc. I've read so many things that I'm totally confused.
