Sponsor realisticchic 09-07-2006, 09:16 AM I have never gotten hives from the sun, but, I have gotten them from sunscreen/block.:) VeeJ 09-07-2006, 08:02 PM Hi. Did the hives itch? I used to get red welt-like bumps on arms & torso that did NOT itch. Eventually they started expanding outward into perfect circles, then faded without scarring or depigmenting. I was eventually Dx'ed with the SCLE "subset" of SLE, positive for anti-Ro. I remain horribly photosensitive & avoid midday sun. Vee mishmish 09-09-2006, 03:39 AM my mother was diagnosed with lupus 15 years ago and yes, you can break out from the sun. the combination of breakouts with extreme fatigue (my mother was VERY active) is what lead to diagnosis. pelchatk 09-12-2006, 01:50 PM Thanks for the replies. I seem to be breaking out more often, yes they itch and they are mainly on my face and scalp. I have also been getting a burning sensation on my cheeks, my checks turn red but seem cool to the touch. (We have a nurse here where I work and I had her check) I feel like my face is on fire.:blob_fire and my temp seems to drop during these episodes. Down to 96.5. I'd like to know what is going on with me! pelchatk 09-12-2006, 01:50 PM Thanks for the replies. I seem to be breaking out more often, yes they itch and they are mainly on my face and scalp. Do the itchy things last long enough to be biopsied by a dermatologist or dermatopathologist? If you have been Dx'ed with lupus, are you wearing a brimmed hat, sunblock, long sleeves & trousers, etc. in the sun? Hope you are getting closer to some answers! Sincerely, Vee pelchatk 09-13-2006, 09:23 AM My doctor thinks it 'might be' sle, but he not 100% convinced. I am on Relafen and Parafon. The last time we spoke he said he might try me on Plaqunil (not sure if I spelled that right) but first he wants to see how I do on those meds. I do wear long sleeves it is required here at work, I also have hard that I where when I am outside. If I go to a ball game I bring an umbrella to sit under. I am not a big fan of the sun for 2 reasons - I have had moles removed that were what my doctor call pre cancer cells, and 2 the sun makes me tired and flu like feeling. I called my primary care doctor and had him review my tests and told him I was looking for answers. He has refered me to a larger city learning hospital. I have an appointment October 16th. My bumps last from 2 hours to a day, as one goes away a new one seems to pop up. Grrr djoyv 09-13-2006, 11:52 PM I used to always get hives from the sun, primarily on my chest, neck, shoulders and upper arms. Occaisionally if the sun exposure was especially intense the hives would spread further to my legs. Mine were raised red/pink circles and they did itch, but not severely so. I have been so good about avoiding the sun that I havent had an episode in years. I would also have a burning malar facial rash and that would feel tight and puffy to me. My temp always has seemed to run low. Even with sun screen and under a tarp you are absorbing sun from reflections. Perhaps look for some of the sun protective clothing. Best~ d. |
