I have an ingrown toe nail and been having it for about 2 months. I play soccer so sometimes it gets stepped on hard and starts bleeding. It's really swollen right now. How do i get rid of it?

Go to the podiatrist and have it cut out. They can treat it where it won't come back. ANd if it's swollen, it may be infected.

When I get ingrown toe nails, I would cut a V shape at the very top of the nail. This pulls the nail away from the sides of your toe when the V grows in. Of course if your ingrown nail is really bad then you will need to have a doctor take care of it. Make sure you put hydrogen proxide on it to keep the risk of infection down. And lastly, to help prevent further ingrown nails, cut your toe nails straight across and don't round them. This will prevent them from growing into your toe on the corners of the nail.

Go to the drug store and get "Outgrow":) . It toughens the skin under the toe nail untill it grows out. No more pain. I use it myself.

I'm sitting here right now with a nail that was just cut out today... I've had probably 6 ingrown toenails by now, maybe 7. They all are plain jerks. I went to the pediatrist today, was numbed up ( 4 needles in your toe, scary stuff), then she cuts it out, and cleans up the infection. It's not as painful as it sounds if you get numbed. Good luck!

I always get ingrown toenails and I have a great way to get rid of them with no doctors. First of all make sure you keep neosporen on it. If it has pus in it pop it (it will hurt) and squeeze out the pus. Cut out the part that is digging into your skin the best that you can. Take a small piece of cotton off a cotton ball and roll it between your fingers so its long. Put neosporen in it. Lift the corner of your toenail the best you can and push the cotton under the nail. It will releave the pressure and allow your nail to grow out. You will have to push the cotton under there with something small. Every couple days you change the cotton. Trust me a doctor told me about this and it works. Try doing this after getting out of the tub or soaking your feet because the nail will be soft.

I used to have ingrown toenails all the time when I was in high school. A combination of pointy high heels, genetically predispositioned toes and not cutting them straight across did it. They'd get PURPLE and full of pus, both sides of both big toes. Had them all cut out several times- after the needs the first time, I refused to let them do that again, the needle hurt...I don't know...so they did it WITHOUT NUMBING IT!
Luckily, I have a high tolerance to pain!
At any rate, for some reason, I've been getting them now, not that bad, don't need to see the doctor...I think from walking a lot. Cutting my nails straight across keeps them at bay.

You should definitely soak it in Epsom Salts to bring down the inflammation, and get it cut out by the podiatrist.
Just curious, but why would it matter if you had to tell your parents? It's not like it's an STD or something, it's an ingrown toenail, which is really common among people who play sports. So what's the big deal?

Like many of the others have said, if you cut those nails straight across and cut a V in them when you get an ingrown nail, you shouldn't need to go to the doctor. Also, tight shoes cause them. Do you need to buy the next size up?
