View Full Version : Hair Falling Out??? ...and Nausea

 I read in another post about hair falling out while taking iron pills. Is that a normal side affect....because of all the side affects I've read about....I didn't see that one. I've been taking iron for 3 weeks now, but haven't really noticed anymore hair lose than normal. I have pretty thick hair...and I pull hair out of my brush every day normally.

Another ?? while I'm posting....does anyone experience a lot of nausea while taking iron?? I watch what I eat within a couple hours of taking it.....but now I'm thinking I should eat something with it. Any suggestions?? :p

Thanks a bunch

You should definitely eat right before you take the iron pills. Someone told me that, and I've always done it. And I think I've been naseous(sp) twice in two months.

Taking iron on an empty stomach helps absorb the iron better, BUT it's better on your stomach if you take it with something. :)

Also, with orange juice helps it absorb better.

My hair fell out because I was low in iron! Yes Ive heard iron is better absorbed without food but a lot of peoples tummys get upset so better to take with food. I took ferrograd without food and was ok.

If your hair is falling out more than normal it's because of the anemia and not the iron pills. Iron pills can make you nauseous and the OP's suggestions are all right. My doctor had me switch to Ferrous Gluconate from ferrous Sulfate because I was nauseous. The Ferrous Gluconate was definitely much easier on my stomach but now I have to get IV iron every week because I have problems absorbing it. Good Luck! :)
