I have a friend that has been taking 4-5 vicodin a day for the last 3-4 years for pain (back) and lately for the last year she has been having constant daily nausea. She has had all the gi tests done and nothing physically is wrong. She says when she takes the vicodin the nausea subsides for 4-5 hours then comes back and then she takes another vicodin and so on and so on.
Quest- could she be dependent on the vicodin so that the nausea is kinda like a withdrawl symptom and so when she takes the vicodin it goes away.

I have read where vicodin can cause nausea but its funny her goes away for awhile after taking a vicodin.

Thanks

I'm no dr. but I believe the nausea is from the Vicodin. Even if she is not taking it consistantly it is still in her system.

I remember when I was hooked on Tramadol, I would puke my guts up hours after taking it.

Hope that helps..

Using Vicodin for long term pain is not a good idea as it's very hard on the liver. The hydrocodone itself is ok but it's all the tylenol that's hurtfull. Is she bringing up bile???

Thanks- no she just has the constant nausea , except when she takes the vicodin it subsides for 5-4 hours. Shes had an upper GI , abd. scans and the works , nothing wrong. I was just wondering if it could be the vicodin.

I had the same thing sometimes once the vics would start wearing off I would get VERY nasaus I also thought it was the pills making me sick so I would try not to take them then I noticed once I took one I felt better. After I associated the 2 when I felt the nasausness coming on I would just take a pill. Maybe it was just the beginning of w/d since they say it cause nasausness. Once I quit though I wasnt very nasaus very weird I always wondered about this too I thought it was just me. Even just one pill made me feel better so I dont think it was the tylenol or the pills cause it wasnt like I was swallowing a mouthful of them which I could understand that making me sick. I guess one of those medical mysteries. Kim
