Hi everyone.
I have had Asthma since I was a child and the last 2 years my Asthma has been poorly controlled even though I avoid triggers and take my medication all the time. I recently had a Xray(2/3 months ago) and was told there is scarring on my lungs and it looked like I had Pnuemonia recently too.
Just over a week ago I continued to have Asthma attacks and I had a continous attack for 5 hours. I finally got a doctors appointment and was given antibiotics and a intense course of steroids. I was told my airways are very imflammed and there is a lot of mucus on my lungs/airways.
The meds seemed to help because I was barely taking my blue inhaler. But 4 days ago I came down with a 48hour bug and felt awful. Now I have a very very bad cough which sounds harsh and everytime I cough I can hear phelgm on my chest. And to top it all off, I've been wheezing all day and can feel the phelgm on my chest.
While I'm sitting down I'm ok but when I'm standing up, this starts off the coughing and/or the wheezing. There is definitely a lot of phelgm there and I can feel it most of the time. I'm having dizzy spells and feel tired/achy but this cough and gunk on my chest is really getting me down now. I guess I'm scared it will go into pnuemonia again because this cough is definitely not normal for me. I also noticed earlier than my nails look a purplish colour but not real dark purple. Just faint purplish or sometimes 2 nails become a purplish colour while the rest are white or faint pink. Weird. Also when I put my hand on my chest I can feel and hear the wheeing and phlegm underneath.
What could it be? Could this be pnuemonia setting in?
I'm on these inhalers: Ventolin, Beclazone, Seretide and Singulair.
Thank you

Hi, I'm not sure about your fingers and whether this is turning into pneumonia as I've never had pneumonia, although I know exactly how you feel and how it sucks BIG time. I have cystic fibrosis and asthma so I get the heavy chest, plegmy wheezy thing happening a lot. My best advice would be to just do everything you can to try and get all that gunk off your chest. I know you probably feel tired etc. but it should really help if you try some huffing/ coughing to get that gunk out - you will feel so much better afterwards. Also this may sound gross but would colour is your phlegm? I know in people with CF this is a good indicator as to whether there is an infection in the lungs so I'm assuming it's the same for others. If it is white/clear then that's good. If it is yellow/dark yellow or green then I would think there would be an infection. Also if you try to do some form of exercise even if it's not very strenuous to help you cough some of that cr@p out. Hope your feeling better soon...

Here is some info maybe helpful for your asthma,
[removed]
I remember I have seen some reports for asthma treatment with food, such as garlic, radish, ect. But I'm very sorry that I can't find them now except the above.
I will send to you at once when I get more.

Hiya,
Thank you for your replies. The phlegm varies between yellowy green to green. [removed] I'll definitely try and get the gunk off my chest. I hate Asthma grrr. Thank you again. :)

If your fingernails are blue you are not getting enough oxygen and you need to call your doctor. The only medication that you have are inhalers? Do you have allergies? Your asthma is definitely not under control. What kind of a doctor do you see?

I am on 3 inhalers and singular tablets which I take at night. I was on Pred recently and antibiotics which helped for 2 days then it started coming back again. I hate Asthma.
Yes I have allergies but I am avoiding all of my triggers and taking antihistamines. I see my GP (general practioner) .
