I had a pap today after not having one for 3 years. But other than that, I have kept up with them, I don't know what got into me, I guess I just got lazy. Anyway, I have never even so much as spotted after a pap. Today, I have cramped ever since and it is bad cramps, then about an hour after I got home, I started bleeding, not just spotting, bleeding! I am on my 3rd pad in about 5 hours. Due to some other problems, I have been having, she requested me to come back in 3 weeks for an ultrasound to figure out why I have so much pain during periods and intercourse. I called their after hours and some man Dr. called me back and told me I was fine, but go to the ER if I started soaking a pad an hour. He didn't sound to interested in listening to me, I guess I was bothering him on a Friday night and he didn't like it. Has this happened to anyone else? What should I do? I am in so much pain I can't hardly stand it. I am scared something is really wrong with me. Should I go to ER anyway, or wait and see if this calms down, I wasn't due for my regular period until late next week. Would it have caused me to start early?
Thanks, Kendra

I agree with the doctor about saturating a pad/hr. But if the pain is that bad then either call the doctor back letting them know how bad the pain is on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the worst pain ever or go to the ER. Tell them it's not the bleeding that has you concerned, it's the pain. But one thing to consider is the ER copay, like for me it's $100 and I have insurance. It is totally up to you what you decide to do as it is your body and you make the decisions. It's not uncommon to bleed after a pap, and with you saying you haven't had one in a few years maybe that is why. If you are truly concerned keep calling the doctor. They may seem to be bothered, but that is their job.. to answer your questions and if they don't give you the answers you want or you feel like they are just blowing you off you need to find a different doctor. I know you don't want to be a problem patient, but you are wanting answers to why this is happening and you don't seem to be getting any. I had to deal with this myself recently. Anywho....

Best wishes and I hope you are feeling better very soon!!

Thank you so much. I think it just caused me to start early or something. I am still going and I am still cramping. That's an issue the Dr. is trying to figure out is why my periods are so bad. They are really heavy and painful and we don't know why. I go back in 3 weeks for further testing. Thanks, Kendra
