Hi
I am 5 months pregnant with my first child and [ REMOVED ]. I have heard all about the possible link between autism and certain immunizations. Question:What would you do with your newborn and their shots, knowing what you know today? I have heard of parents postponing the MMR shot or DPT shots until after that critical age of two, I have heard of parents seperating all of the shots so that they are not receiving 50 shots in one visit... I am also worried about getting a flu shot when i am pregnant which i know they push, because that is the only shot, supposedly, with thimerosol contained in it, and that seems to be the culprit. I know there is no definite proof of the link, but i would love to get some opinions from experienced parents!

Autistic traits are thought to result from interaction between genes & environment. You might want to consider family history in your decision-making process. Does either side have folks w/autistic traits. Also consider whether there is a preponderance of autoimmune disorders of any sort, or chemical sensitivities. These are more common in relatives of those w/autistm. Beyond that, it seems that certain subsets of autism are more common in children with potential for high intelligence -- again, perhaps family history is telling.
If your child is female, there is a lower probability of autism than if your child is male.
My DS is 16 yo, high-functioning PDD-NOS. Knowing what I know now, YES, I would do anything to go back & avoid the DPT shot that put him into shock. Knowing what I know now, that this child has a glutathione-gene knockout & doesn't process metals or toxins well, I would delay on all of his shots. (Thimerosol is one of the worst, but most thimerosol-free shots contain other metals as ajuvants.). My DS has only his 12 yo boosters on hold (parents too late schmart). Any future vaccines, like tetanus, will be given only after titer-proof of necessity, as our family is hyper-responsive to vaccines & builds high levels of antibodies with less than full series of shots.
The biggest benefitters of public-health immunization schedules are pharma, and that elusive concept known as "herd immunity." Vaccines are sold & guilt-pushed to parents as a dutiful protection for the child, but there's an aspect of hype that is best acknowledged. Many kids are paying the price, not just w/autism, but with later-developing autoimmune diseases. For example, the Hep-B vaccine contains molecules that mimic myelin basic protein.
Read all you can about the vaccination industry. It's not as clean as one is led to believe.
Best wishes to you & to your little one.

Autism is caused by different hings for different people. My son Kedan got autism from vaccines no doubt. Actually I dont believe they CAUSE them but there trigger the autism in SOME cases like Kedans.
If you dont want them then dont get them tell them know they cant or wont make you. I dont do it anymore and 3 of my 4 are in school without any vaccines. Yes the flu shot contains mecury but so does the ROGAM shot if you have a certain bloodtype while pg you have to have it. So imagine that combined with the flushot? Also im pretty sure the chicken pox vaccine has it also.
If I did want to get them I dont reccomend befroe the age of 3 getting any of them. And even then seperate them.
All my doctors know how I feel and dont even mention it anymore to me. (they will get an ear full)
I believe it IS proven theres a link in the two (not in all autism cases though) If you think about it they cant reall admit it becouse then look at how bad the gov. will lokk for making them a law plus the millions upon billions of dollars they will have to pay out. All our kids would be considered vaccine injured. They would be stupid to admit it and they know it.
Please read the good book called Evidence Of Harm by David Kirby.

Hi there! And first, thank you for being who you are as an OT....! I'm sure it's a very rewarding job:)
My 6yr old son is typically functioning and had all his shots.
My 5 yr old son has autism and had all his shots.
My 18 month old is (so far) typically functioning and hasn't had ANY shots.
We'll waut until he is older and do one at a time..however, my husband says no shots EVER....
Hard decision and I wish you luck!! You will find a lot of good feedback here!!!

hi there
Both of my children had all of their shots as scheduled. Liam (3) is autistic and Kaya (15 mos) is totally NT. But, where-as Liam seemed to get just one needle every time, Kaya gets two. (We switched Drs when Liam was 2). Does seperating the shots make a difference? I don't really know much about this theory. I'm quite convinced that Liam was born this way.

My opinion is that you should read as much as possible from reputable sources about the issue at hand and make an educated decision. The package inserts are a good place to start. You could search pubmed and pediatric journals. Most publicized epidemiological studies claim that there is no link between vaccines and autism. Others studies claim a link using the same research data!

Hi Kellot,
I'm sure you know by now that there is overwhelming evidence for both sides of the argument, which means no-one really knows for sure.
What I do know is that, whilst these childhood illnesses can be very serious, they are not often fatal - statistically your child is at far more risk of dying in a car accident and no-one's trying to stop us all driving.
All I can say with any certainty is that my son will never have another vaccination (he had all of them up to, and including, MMR), and neither will any other child I have.
I've been told you can vaccinate homeopathically -I'm looking into it at the minute and will post if/when I find out more about it.
Something else that reassured me was looking at statistics - for example, here in the UK, before MMR about 90 children died from measles every year. Of course that's horrific, no child dying is ever a good thing, but when I read that around 240 died due to accidents around the home (just regular accidents, nothing to do with abuse or neglect) it put it in perspective a little and made it seem less of a risk. I'm sure most of us parents remember having a lot of these illnesses as kids; healthcare and nutrition are good these days and most kids are strong enough to fit it off.
Hope something helps - my honest opinion is that I'd no more vaccinate my child then leave him in the middle of a road, but I know a lot of people disagree with that.

My daughter has had all of her shots, and is normal functioning. My son has had all of his and has mild Autism. The only thing I chose to do differently as far as their shots was to hold off on their Hep B vaccination. I did not allow the hospital to give either of them the shot after they were born, and instead waited until their 2-week follow up. Will I continue to get my son vaccinated? Probably. At this point, I don't really see why I shouldn't, despite the fact my aunt is convinced the 2 yr shots are what changed her own son forever.
