Hi,

My Mom is 73 and has osteo. She was on Fosamax for several years and after her last bone dent. the doctor decided to place her on Forteo.

She is doing good with taking the injections, but has complained with some very bad pain in her legs and joints. She stated to me today that the pain was so bad last night that it woke her up.

She has only been on Forteo 12 days and is already wanting to stop the injections, because of the pain.

Anyone that has any information about Forteo and the side effects, please post a reply. I thank you!

Hi - The only advice I can give you is for your Mom to stop taking the Forteo injections until she contacts her doctor. In the pamphlet which comes with the medicine, it says that if you experience pain which is uncomfortable, you should contact your doctor. Perhaps your mother has some sort of allergy to the medicine. Good luck!

I've been on forteo for 5 mos, with a temp respite, to figure out why my ionized calcium level was mildly elevated. This is the only side effect that I have experienced and I'm not positive I can blame it on Forteo, because the dr.s can't prove it yet, I could have had this problem for a long time prior to Forteo that went undiagnosed. Because we are all different then we get different reactions. Is the pain she is experiencing definitely atributable to the Forteo? Did she have pain before she started it? I don't know her med history, but there are many other disease that could cause the pain that you may not have know you have ie: osteo arthtritis, dengenerative disc disease, and etc, etc and it may have just manifested at this point in time.

Good Luck to her and best wishes to you both...

I think contacting her doctor would be a good idea. Did she have pain while on the Fosamax? I haven't had any sdie effects that I know of except a red mark sometimes where the injection was done. I hope she finds answers soon.

Hi!

Thanks for the replies. She has had some mild lower back pain in the past, but not pain all over (joint pain and leg pain) prior to Forteo. I wasnt sure if the injections caused bone pain or not. I hadnt read that it does.

Also, she didnt have any pain while taking the fosamax and took it for several years. She knows how important the med is for good bone health and has been instructed in detail by her Doc. So, for her to complain and say she wanted to "stop the injections!" makes me to think the pain must be pretty uncomfortable for her.

I'm going to call her doctor in the morning. Thank you so much!
