Sorry, title should say hydronephrosis
Hi,
Just after some advice really regarding my partially undiagnosed problem after driving myself mad looking at potential causes on the internet. Basically last September I started getting a severe pulsating pain in my lower left back just above the buttock and just off centre. I saw my GP who said it sounded like a back injury, sent me for an x-ray that came back clear and prescribed pain killers. After a few weeks the pain subsided amd I thought nothing of it. Fast forward to the end of November and the pains back but this time in the edge of the pelvis, the top of the hip and a feeling of being kicked in the left groin with weak urine flow. My GP then arranged for me to get a kidney/bladder ultrasound, finally got this in February (NHS) which showed the left kidney was backed up. Urine samples took, no infection, trace blood intermitant, sent for a kub the same day and suspected I had a stone from x-ray findings. Returned in March for an IVP (pain symptoms the same), this revealed left kidney scarring and slight ureter narrowing just below the junction on the same side, no sign of a stone and nothing else. Fast forward to July, same pain comes and goes, same problem pee'ing (seems totally random), gp arranges for me to see a kidney specialist and another abdominal ultrasound (kidneys, liver, spleen, adrenal glands, bladder, gall bladder). I had this scan two weeks ago, everything fine except the left kidney is still mildly backed up, prostate ruled out. I saw the urologist around the same time who allayed my fears of it being something such as cancer and the damage looks like it was from an old infection. Arranged for a kidney function test which I had today (dtpa renogram). So as I type this i'm panicking trying to self diagnose my problem and have bloating in the left side at the bottom ribs. Has anyone got any suggestions as to what could be the problem? I'm thinking all sorts of strange things like it being a problem outside the urinary tract.
David.
