Hi everyone,
I've been considering Rhinoplasty for quite a long time now. I'm a 22 now, and when I was younger I really didnt have a clue there was anything wrong with my nose.
When I was 14, a guy said to me "doesnt it annoy you having such a huge nose?" - kids can be so cruel. From that point on, I became very concious of my nose.
It's not a huge nose at all, but it is larger than I'd like it to be. The "tip" of my nose is very round, and bone at the top of my nose is very triangular (which makes the actual nose stand out a lot more, and makes the point between my eyes look very narrow. Plucking my eyebrows further apart to widen the gap simpily makes it look like i've plucked my eyebrows further apart and doesnt really look right. (because I have quite prominant eye-brow-bone-bits).
Anyway, the point I'm trying to get to is.. My looks mean a lot to me, so I'm so scared of it going all wrong - what if it just really doesnt look right after I've had it done? How does one tell what shape of nose would suit him/her?
Also, what is possible with rhinoplasty? What exactly CAN be done?

It sounds to me that you are more concerned about what someone else thinks about your looks than what you think. If you were fine with your nose before some obvious moron made a remark then you should still be fine with it.
What if after you had it done someone else had a negative oppinion about your nose, or anything else for that matter, would you change it again ?
That being said if you still want to proceed find yourself a good doc and he or she will be able to tell you what is possible in your situation. Make sure that what you want lines up with what the PS can do. Definetly consult with a few PS's.

be very careful before you consider having this done, and make sure you are fully prepared for the outcome, no matter how good or bad it may be. i had mine done by a male doctor (who will remain nameless) who owns the sullivan centre in columbus ohio. the operation was done in a freestanding outpatient surgery facility. my surgery turned out to be quite disastrous. for one, i woke up during the operation in complete pain but was totally cognizant of everything going on. i felt the incompetent doctor cutting my nose, chiseling my chin, and pulling and tugging on my face during the entire procedure. unfortunately I was in a state of paralysis and couldn't speak or move. terrifying experience! but the horror was just beginning. my chin implant shifted and drooped within the first 6 months, and my nose was so mis-shaped that i had to seek professional counseling in order to mentally cope with the new deformity. my nose went from being somewhat large and pronounced to being droopy, bulbous, crooked, and bumpy. the lowest estimate I received for a revision was close to $20,000. i have to have bone removed from my hip to fix it and the professional counseling will likely continue for the rest of my life due to my experience from having this operation. i wish i could go back and do things over. i would have chosen a different doctor for sure, or quite possibly, I would have reconsidered having it done at all. after all i went through, the doctor didn't care once he got his money. just be prepared for the rest of your life to be changed, quite possibly for the worse. best wishes, good luck, and God Bless!

Fanny the only doctor at that clinic that is board certified by The one and only plastic surgery board is the female doctor. The other person is not :( That may be WHY things went wrong.
ALSO who did your anesthesia? Was it a nurse or a doctor?

Fanny, I am so sorry that you have such a horrible experience with your surgery
I just want to assure people that rhinoplasty can have an amazing outcome like I did . I had my rhinoplasty done 6 months ago. By far, it was the best decision I have ever made in my life (as well as one of the hardest, I even called to cancel 3 days before surgery) thankfully, I had an amazing doctor. It was the best money I have ever spent and I would do it a thousands times over. I am the same age as you when I got it done, 22 years ago……..i believe that’s a good age and you will heal super fast if you follow the doctors instructions….good luck in your decision…

What is the difference between open and closed? First of all I am afraid of being totally knocked out.
I would like a bump removed and the tip taken back a little. My nose is too long. I would rather have like a cute little swoopy nose, but I asm sure that would be a complicated procedue. Right now I would just be happy to have the current one toned down a bit.
Do they always have to knock you out for this procedure? I had a c section and granted I was numb from the chest down but they gave me a drug where I coildnt remember the c section and i did sleep a little. I wonder if they could so somethign similar with rhinoplasty?
