Hi ladies!
I am new to this board, just had my little angel 2 1/2 weeks ago and the doctor just diagnosed her with colic. We have had a pretty rough 2 1/2 weeks, she cries most of the night and nothing seems to soothe her. :dizzy: Does anyone have any suggestions to try to help calm a colicky baby? TIA!!!

Congrats, welcome and I feel for you. First, keep saying this in your head, "this too shall pass." Say it again:) Just kidding (sort of) Hopefully the worst will be over in a few weeks. We thought the book, "Happiest baby on the Block" was an absolute lifesaver. We STILL use some of the techniques with our 5 month old.
-Swaddling, tight. She still likes to be wrapped up for early sleep and naps
-She almost always will stop crying if we use this...sit on the couch/chair. Place on her side in you lap, head by your knees. Rock your legs back and forth pretty vigorously, while supporting the back of her head. (It's supposed to re-create the womb)
-The book talks specifically about colic issues
Good luck...it will be better soon

You MUST get the book, "The Happiest Baby on the Block" by Dr. Harvey Karp. It is available in any retail store like Wal-Mart or the local book stores. The book made sense to me and the techniques make sense. Luckily I didn't have to use any, but hopefully it will help you. Also, buy a sling that the baby lays down into, they are made by Infantino and available at Target.

yes the book is a good idea but sometimes those things wouldn't work for my daughter, the only thing that always worked to at least stop the crying or bring it down a notch or two, was walking. i must have walked miles around my house everynight. it would eventually work to calm her down. i also would use those 'colic tablets'. i got them at walgreens and most of the time they would work pretty good along with the walking. also another lifesaver was the blowdryer! sounds crazy i know but we figured out that when we put her in the swing with the blowdryer right up there next to her, it would instantly shut her up and help her to get to sleep. it doesn't work anymore and we didn't discover this until the worst of the colic was already over! i hope some of these suggestions will work for you. for my dd mos of her colic went away as if by magic when she turned 12 weeks old! its going to be a rough few weeks but you'll make it through! i feel for you an good luck!

If you dont have time for the book, get the video! Thats what i did, and I'm sure it was a lot shorter and easier - I dont have much time for reading these days.
Aside from that, we've found that sitting in the bathroom with the tub running water works pretty well.
Good luck!

DS loved to be swaddled and it always worked better if I put the blanket in the dryer for a few minutes and got it nice and warm. Also he loved to be in the front carrier and walk around the house with me when I was doing chores. To get him to go to sleep I would bring his big comfy stroller in the house and recline it about halfway and pull the sun shade down and walk him around the house or just back and forth, he would usaully be asleep in 10 or 15 minutes, it also helps with teething.
Also welcome to the board and congratulations on your new arrival, colic is terrible but it does pass and just try and keep reminding yourself that.

Try putting baby in carrier with warm blankets from dryer and put carrier on top of running dryer..........helped me 21 years ago..........also there is a natural herb you can get...perfectly safe for all........it's called Bach's Rescue Remedy..get at the GNC or healthfood store....it's all natural and you can put it in water and drop a couple drops behind ear, or mix with formula........it is very safe....read up on it.............

I also recommend that same book mentioned above. DD had colic from 4 weeks to 12 weeks old. The book helped, but didn't "cure".
In addition to the techniques in the book, the following things helped:
Baby in carseat. Set the carseat on the dryer. Turn the dryer on.
Baby in carseat in the bathroom. Turn blow-dryer on low & let it run (pointing away from the baby, of course).
Baby swing (only worked about 20% of the time...but when it did work, it was wonderful).
Breastfeeding.
Gas drops didn't work for us to help any potential stomach problems.
Make sure YOU get a break every single day! I cannot stress this enough! Put your H in charge for a minimum 1-2 hours every single day, and you go to the store, take a nap, do your nails, take a bath...something so you don't hear the baby cry. The baby will be fine. I learned I cannot be the best mom I can if I neglect myself or think I can do it all myself.
The colic does go away. Keep reminding yourself of that!
Good luck.

Hello!
The best thing you can do for a colicky baby is take them to a Chiropractor. Better, yet, a Pediatric Chiropractor. They are specifically trained to treat infants and are very safe! Colic is a problem that arises from the spine from between the shoulder blades. They can fix this easilly and gently. I was colicky when I was a baby, and one of mine was, also. You can find a Ped. Chiro. at www.icpa4kids.com It is as simple as that. Best of luck!

my daughter was born 8 weeks premature and she was great in the NICU but after i brought her home i wanted to take her back :) she was a textbook colic case. we have alot of it in our family come to find out so my cousin told me to try something called colic calm? i thought yea right but i decided what the hey it couldn't hurt at this point. after i made sure it was ok for her i ordered it and as soon as i opened it i almost sent it back (it's black) but i decided i would try it anyways. long story short it has worked wonderes for us and now my doctor recommends it to all her patients. hope this helps :)
