OK, my DH is about 2 1/2 months old and can suck his bottles down and always seems to be hungry!!! I'm not worried about this, but it seems like I'm feeding him ALL the time. I've even upped his feedings etc...

One of my girlfriends suggested that ONCE a day I put gerbers oatmeal in his bottle---just half a teaspoon as she did it with her little man when he was the same age---he's 11 months old now. Is this OK? She says it helped fill him a little more and helped soothed him from his hunger fussiness. It just seems like the soy milk isn't cutting it anymore.

What should I do---if anything at all?

I would ask your Dr., as everyone will have an opinion about this on this board and elsewhere. EVERYONE swears by this and my Dr. said it was an absolute "No, No." And, she's pretty liberal when giving instructions and advice. She said there is a risk of choking and she's seen it in the practice. (Aside from all the other nutritional reasons etc...) I have an eater too, so I just kept feeding her!!

I would not feed a 2 month old any cereal yet, I have waited patiently for my daughter to turn 6 months before starting with solids. Two different doctors said to me the longer you wait the more 'mature' their little tummies are to handle food and less likely to have any allergic reactions. Besides, it would seem solids have nothing to do with their sleeping as this is rather something that happens naturally at about the same time.
My daughter was also nursing a lot, sometimes every hour. It can be very tiring but I think it's normal, especially when they are about to have a growth spurt. Just be patient and keep feeding him!

I believe infant cereal to over processed and nutritionally void. They are refined so much so that they greatly effect their glycemic index, and over time can contribute type 2 diebies, obesity, etc.

And to make matters worse, because everything has been taken out, any nutritional value must then be added back in. Otherwise known as "fortified". Infants also don't produce the digestive enzymes needed to break down grains until after their first year. Wheat and rice are now being added to the allergen list, which means you should wait until after the 1st year to introduce them.

And lastly, your doctor is not a nutritionist. Pediatricians are doctors of internal medicine, and their total education on nutrition is but a drop in their medical bucket. Be pro-active about you and baby's health. You do not need a pediatrician to tell you about the benefits/risks of infant cereal. And if you are the type to need a "professional" help you make those decisions, seek out the help of a licensed infant nutritionist, not your pediatrician.

Boy your question takes me back- ds is now 31/2 and he used to polish off 2-8oz bottles before bed dirring a growth spurt AND wake up about 6 hrs later for another bottle.

DO NOT put cereal in his bottle - not only is there the possibility of choking like your ped said but there is also the poss of allergy- wait to give solids. Also you don't want your son associating the bottle with solid food(harder to wean later).

was lucky with dd ( now 15 months) she took to breast feeding - maybe that's not so lucky :p ;) since she is a chow hound just like her big bro. But both the kids are in great shape for all they eat- Son is 43inches and 38 lbs and dd is 29 inches 22 lbs. Feed him as much as he needs and once he is in solids feed him quality food he'll grow...:D
