View Full Version : I TRIED!

I tried to donate blood! My iron WAS normal much to my surprise, but the nurse said I should take a multi-vitamin for that. I was nervous and my pulse was too high so they wouldn't let me donate!!!!

The good thing is that I've been trying to eat more at meals and usually I can. But I still do skip some and I can't help that. I am getting a little better though. Most likly that's why I am always tired. I made sure I ate good when I tried to donate blood though!

Good for you, Nicholen!

Be proud of yourself for the effort. Next time you try, you will most likely succeed. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Have you ever tried deep breathing exercises in a pulse-pounding situation like that? I can really help to slow things down.

You go, girl!

Hey Copper!

Thanks for replying!
Yes I have tried deep breathing excersizes, but they don't work that well. As soon as I feel like I've calmed down a bit I start to think about it again and my pulse just goes right back up. Oh well, I guess i'll eventually learn to handle it!

As you eat and become healthier you will be able to do it dear-until than it's much to dangerous and you could pass out and get really sick.
God Bless.

It's probably better that they wouldn't let you.

I gave blood last year for school and my iron was surprisingly normal since I had been unhealthily vegetarian for years and hadn't eaten in days. But they let me. And anyways I passed out five times and when I passed out the last time the needle thingy got ripped out of my arm and pushed through my vein. Then I was so weak I had to lay in this little room for a couple hours 'cause I couldn't get up and they made me eat a bunch of pretzels and soda. Then I felt really sick for the rest of the day.
I wish they wouldn't have let me donate. Although I did feel good about doing it, I'm never doing it again. It was horrible!

So anyways.....
You should feel good about yourself that you tried to give blood but maybe it's better that you didn't.

Yeah, enough of my rambling.

Hi Jessica and Cutenbrat!

Thanks for your replies. Actually this was for school. They are coming again in the spring and I think I'll try again.

I made sure I did eat a few days before I tried and I ate a few times before I tried to give blood. I was just too scared and my pulse was too high.
Oh well, hopefully I'll do better next time!
