I had unprotected sex one night. I have been tested 3 times already. The last time was three months ago after the awful incident happened. They all came back negative. Problem is I feel like I have some symptoms (dry throat, possible swollen underarm lymph node) If I am having real symptoms wouldnt my test be positive? Or could I test negative and really be having symptoms? Confussed!!!! Then I here some say that testing at three months is conclusive and others say its not... until six months! What do I believe? What is the percentage that come up positive at the six month testing?

Ok, try to give me a time line. How soon after the incident were you tested? Was any of the tests three months after the encounter? (For example, did you test a week after the encounter and then two weeks after than and anther week after the second test?) What kind of test did you have? Was blood drawn because if it was a blood test it would imply an ELISA test which is pretty conclusive.

ANyway, I would suggest you are negative and that your test is accurate.

Dry throat is not a symtom for HIV. It is, however, a symtom of anxiety.

As for the lymph node? Neither is a lymph node a symtom, in and of itself, a symptom. It could be anything from a cold to an ingrown hair or ingrown hair follicle. You cannot diagnose HIV through symtoms (remember this!) but only through testing. OK?

Thanks so much for replying. I was tested exactly one month after the incident. I was negative. Then I tested about a month and a half after the incident. It also came back negative. Then I tested exactly three months after the incident and it too came back negative.("Thank the Lord!!!") So when should I test again? How high are the chances that it could still come out positve?

I would think that your chances are really good that you will again test negative. CDC suggests three months post exposure as the standard. However, many people, just to make sure, test again three months later. chris

I've re-read the posts listed above and I have some difficulty with one thing: you have't described the unprotected sexual encounter. Was it oral, vaginal, anal, mutual masterbation or what? And, you do understand that you only run the risk of contracting HIV if you have unprotected sex with someone who is HIV+. Have you ascertained the HIV status of your partner?

Finally, these are not symptoms of HIV but are symtoms of stress. chris

Any chance you have been tested for MONO? You might want to consider that? Kinda sounds like what your experiencing is a possibility? But, you should talk to your Doc and get HIV outta your mind and ease your mind too by asking your Doc what could be going on??

Please tell me.......What is MONO? And as for the first question posted my encounter was viginal sex. I was drunk, it was a one night stand so I dont know him or his status. I was so ashamed about the whole thing I didnt even keep his number. I tried to forget about the whole thing until I was diagnosed with genital Herpes and Chlamydia. Now Im freaking out about HIV. I've lost weight my hair is falling out..... Im just soooo stressed out!
