Hopefully I can post this question in this forum, not sure where else to go. I recently had my CBC done and my Cholesterol came back quite low
Totol Cholesterol - 3.15 mmol/L (122 mg/dl)
Triglycerides - 0.79 mmol/L (31 mg/dl)
LDL - 1.70 mmol/L (66 mg/dl)
HDL - 1.09 mmol/L (42 mg/dl)
Is there a cause to be concerned over extremely low readings? Hematology report came back within normal ranges - except MCH was considered a little high
WBC - 8.7
RBC - 4.53
Is it normal for some people to have such low readings? I don't eat much meat and eat low fat whenver I can. Any answers would be much appreciated, I've been quite worried about this although my doctor says "enjoy my life".

Listen to your doctor, sweetie! These are great numbers.

Those numbers shouldn't be a problem IF!! you didn't get them that low through cholesterol lowering medications. Numbers that low are a problem if they are artificially achieved. There are some conditions that can cause low cholesterol...Niemann-Pick...this causes readings to be low, but unesterfied cholesterol will build up in the cells, causing damage. It is a rare conditions, and there are many other symptoms that go along with it. It is funny that cholesterol lowering medications are of no benefit to this condition. You are probably just a person who at the present has a body that doesn't require anymore cholesterol. Body's do require fat to function properly. Saturated fat is not the culprit that most people believe it to be.

Fine numbers tracy.
They are obviously a result of your low-fat, meatless diet. You are the envy of everyone on this board.
Enjoy your life! :D

Thank-you for for replying. I am just worried that my results seem extremely low. Can't low cholesterol be a sign of underlying disease?

I was just recently told by a cardiologist that ideally, your LDL and HDL should be the same. The point being that if you are a person that can't get your LDL down, then you'd better get your HDL up and if you can't get your HDL up, then you'd better blast your LDL down. Your numbers are fantastic!

OMG i would watch my total cholesteral. You need a certain amt of fat...there are problems than can arise from too low cholesteral. I do not know why a dr or anyone else would want someone's level that low! :dizzy:
A totally meatless diet isn't healthy at all by any means.

Those are great numbers. However, I disagree that they are low due to a low-fat, meatless diet. More than likely, it's hereditary. When I was eating carbs in the form of fruits and veggies (minus potatoes) plus meat and some fat, my cholesterol levels in all aspects were at their best. On the other hand, I have always had a low HDL level in spite of doing all the things doctors tell patients to do to raise HDL levels. Mine is hereditary.

That is probably one of the most stupid statements I have ever heard. I would certainly seek out another cardiologist.

Thanks to everyone who has replied...........I have to add that I made a mistake saying my triclycerides were 30 that should read 70. I'm still not feeling very well with a total cholesterol of 122 though.........it just seems extremely low. Anyone else out there with such low total cholesterol or anyone who could provide any further advice? Thanks to all.

Hello. I just had a cholesterol reading of127. The Dr. said that was fine and nothing to worry about. However, I just read an article that having low cholesterol is a sign of depression and anxiety which I have been suffering from for quite some time now.

Anyone know what problems can arise if your body does not have enough cholesterol? What sort of symptoms would you experience?

Hi Tracy girl. I am a 35 year old female. All I know is that my good cholesterol was was higher than the bad. I'm not sure of the exact numbers. At the time I really didn't pay much attention until other people started telling me that these numbers were too low. As far as my diet goes, there's really not much to it. Egg whites, sushi, sometimes chicken, and that's pretty much it. Don't really eat much red meat or other things that contain alot of cholesterol.
