I had sexual intercourse two months ago with a female. The sex was protected, but at one point the condom broke and there was contact for seconds. I put another condom on and continued. I know the girl, and she claims to have been very recently tested and very clean. However, I know she is fairly promiscuous as well, so I was not sold. Now, 2 months later, I have very mild cold like symptoms. A scratchy (though not really sore) throat, slightly tender nodes right behind the lobes of my ears, and an overall "blah" feeling. While at first I thought nothing of it (I always have these symptoms when i come back to college - lack of sleep, around a lot of people) but have sinced convinced myself i have acute hiv disease. Am i being overly concerned? Obviously i am getting tested, but i fear it is too early. (also, obviously I have, withing a matter of the 4 days I have been feeling sick, gone from passing it off as my usual start of college cold to a full blown aids obsession. I read HIV symptoms every free moment i get. Every time I see a slight red mark i assume it is a rash and am doomed. this is not good for me, i am sure)

Anxiety is your big enemy and you need to control it. Test at 6 weeks if you feel you need an early indication of your status and then again at 13 weeks. Chances are your symptoms are anxiety related or you caught some other bug. You should also get tested for STDs if you are sexually active as most of them are easier to catch than HIV is.
Best of luck to you!

During my first days just after exposure i went through the same emotions which u are experiencing now, but let me assure u the presence of symtpms or lack of it does not mean the presence or lack of HIV, the only way u can find out is by a test.....u need to take a Hiv antibody test post 13 weeks u most recent exposure to get a conclusive negative result.......& yeah other STD's are more easily transmitted, so get tested for them & consult ur doc if u continue to remain anxious!!!

I would highly reccomend getting tested for MONO or as the INTERNET calls it Epstein Barr. You stated Lymph Node pain in your neck and this points to what I was talking about. But, it is in your best interest to get a full STD test to cure your woes and mind. You'll be alright, you gotta test alright and stay off the internet symptom sites.

You'll be fine.
I did the sameas you and convinved myself I had HIV. I had night sweats, sore throat, pains under arms - loads of stuff.
I nearly went mad. Panic attacks the lot.
I got tested and was fine - and bingo - all the symptoms went away.
And as for being too early to test. I read tons of stuff on this and if you can get the duo test - at 6 weeks its pretty conclusive.
Get another done at 13 weeks + and then get on with your life.
I do feel for you though - its a dreadful feeling.
