I was just wondering at what age will birth marks and moles show up. My dd is almost a year and she has this thing on her face that looks like a pimple but it has been there for 2 weeks so I am wondering if it is going to be a permanent mark.

My DD has a small mole on her arm and I guess it's been there since she was about 9 months. I'm sure she'll get plenty more because I and DH are covered in them!

Hi Simonsmom~ My friend’s daughter had something like that. It was a red spot on her cheek. They had it checked out and it turned out to be a cherry hemangioma, which is a benign lesion. Nothing really serious, but they are having it taken off. They were told it would get bigger and bigger. I would just have your ped take a look at it the next time you’re in there.

hey newg, just how old is your friends daughter and when did the angioma develop/has it been there since birth or did it suddenly just pop in one day out of the blue?the reason i am asking is it 'can' be a sign of liver/kidney disease.my son had one that had been there for many years,in his case it kept getting deeper and deeper red with tiny little capillaries surrounding it.didn't think much of it at the time and neirther did his doc.at age 12 he started showing some odd symptoms and the next thing we knew,he had been Dxed with being in liver failure.i am sure this is just a benign angioma or also called a nevis?but just to be sure, really sure, you may want to have your friend get some blood tests done on her child just to make sure.the key thing here is the actual age of the child right now.if she is at least ten and presenting with this,it really is important to get the liver and kidney blood work done.just to be totally sure their isn't some sort of issue.hopefully this is one of the more benign ones and will eventually dissapate over time.please let me know if you should find out anything.marcia

Thanks feelbad, I'll mention it to my friend. Her dd is 4. It also had the tiny little capillaries coming off of it. We live a fairly small town and I know she had gone out of town to a specialist to look at it and have it taken off but much better to be safe than sorry. Thanks for the info!

My son is 6 1/2 months old and he has a birth mark on the side of his tummy thats brown. It showed up around 2 months of age. I was so worried, I have a birth mark (port wine stain) from my baby toe to my butt, on my right leg and it's still there! But muchly faded.

newg, just to be on the safe side here,i would mention to her that she may want to have the childs ped just run some simple bloodwork to check the kidneys and the liver.you just really need to make sure that this is not an indication of some underlying condition.the ped would also most likely be able to palpate the abdominal area and tell if the liver was actually enlarged in some way.unbeknownst to us,the parents, our son was born with a really wide 'girth'/ he was just a bit wider at the hips.it wasn't really out front, but more side to side and he always maintained that same exact shape thruout til he actually had his liver transplant, then wow,his sides actually went in again.but we just assumed that the wider hip area was just 'his' shape and nothing more.here, all that time,he was actually born with that enlarging liver and we just(and his ped)assumed that was normal for him.my my we were sooo suprised and quite shocked to find out the real reason.
you just need her to make darn sure that this is indeed a 'nothing" type of angioma.do you happen to know if there is any sort of kidney or liver issues on either side of their families?the type my son had was totally autosomal dominant which basically means that it was an inherited disorder that we didn't even realize was even in our family til my son got sick, then i was tested as well as my sisster and we both ended up actually having polycystic kidney disease which is what triggered the liver disease in my son.luckily ours is not as bad liver wise.he just recieved a mutated gene from the disease.
its been quite the ride but my sons liver has been just fantastic since transplant and it was six years this past june.amazing what modern medicane can do.i hope sincerely that all this info i gave you is totally useless and the angioma will be removed and that will be the end of it.if you should have the need for some answers tho, give me a holler,K?Marcia
