Who's experienced these and what's the cure?

I have NP and am on Lyrica, so I'm not sure what else to be on...
*but the burning feeling on the HEEL of my feet bothers.
*If it isn't that, it'd be my feet are on fire and have edema (swollen feet).
*IF it ain't that, then it's tingly feelings down my legs.
*If it ain't that the numb sensation on my chest/upper arm is occurring

*right now I have a bruise in the center of my chest as apparently my heart stopped and the Paramedics did a chest compression (this happened several days ago--can't remember as I was "out")*

I either have 1 problem going and it's either of those "listed" issues or they ALL are occurring at the same time.

Rarely do I have a time w/o any of those issues going on, but when I have a "break" of no problems...I am a happy camper.

But right now, my bottom of my heel feels burned. Yesterday it was worse and I spent the whole day asleep & in bed (felt ill & in pain, not just heel/sole of feet but abdominal *another issue*).

I do have pain meds, but they don't do anything for nerve pain. Lyrica is the only nerve pain meds I have. The others are Methadone & Dilaudid & Lidoderm Patch 5%

what can I do to help ease this burning sensation on my heel? Elevation ain't doing anything except keeping me from having edema *shrug*.

:) Hi Jen,So sorry that you are so ill. I have the burning feet also. I think that when the body gets acidic,it causes all kind of problems. I started taking Probiotics and they are helping with a lot of my problems. You can buy Litmus strips and test your urine and see how acidic you are. Then start taking the Probotics 3 times a day.It has helped in so many ways. My hearing is even better and I feel much better since I started the Probotics.Do a little research on line--type in "What happens when we are acidic", it's amazing how much you will find.

Hi Jen,
This use to help me some when my feet were on fire.
3 or 4 soluble disprin and sorbelene lotion, disolve the disprin and mix with the sorbelene to a thick paste[ not runny ] then just slap it all over the burning spot after a little while it was asorbed into the skin and hopefully it may ease the burning, [ sorta makes the small nerves a bit drunk :) ]
It will not take it away completely but it use to at least make it more bearable to handle.
I use to make up enough for the whole day, then when i felt i needed it, i would slap some more on.
good luck :)

I use ice-packs when my feet are burning. I have about 8 and keep them in the freezer. That way I always have enough--even if I forgot to put some pack or some aren't frozen yet. The ice doesn't always help the burning go away, but I feel much better while it's being applied. I also keep a few istant ice-packs in my car in case I need them away from home.

Most of us have experienced the same feelings. Try to cut out as much sugar out of your diet as possible. And also try to get off the narcotics. They only cause rebound pain and affect all organs.

I've read a lot of posts about cutting back on sugar to help neuropathy. I would like to look more into this because every doctor I have asked and my mother who is a dietician, say that there would be no medical reason other than if the patient is a diabetic or "pre-diabetic".

Does anyone have good resources?

I was prediabetic and any large amounts of sugar would definatly increase my burning, i also know a lot of people that have PN, that are not diabetic and they too say that high sugary carbs give them increased symptoms.

So if you are diabetic PN er' or even idiopathic PN er', we all share the same problem, we all have damaged nerves and sugar must irritate those damaged nerves, as they are already trying to send signals that are confused in the first place, and sugar must upset them more so.

Somebody else may be able to explain the scientific explanation why this is so, but thats the best i can do.

take care :)

Thanks for starting to explain it. I'm ready to try anything that will help.

On a similiar note, I have also heard that wheat can be a nerve irritant even if an individual does not have a wheat allergy or celiac disease. I'm looking into this too.

I wouldn't leave any stone unturned untill i hopefully found the answer to why this has happened.
I was lucky enough to find my problem early before to much damage had been done and was able to reverse it, thank god.
I hope you can do the same, good luck :)

Although i know personally how i feel when consuming high carbs and my feet...i learned about the science of this reading the ''Zone'' by Barry Sears. When you consume high carbs your body has to release Insulin to deal with it or you'll die so its actually doing its job...The problem is that high Insulin is a very powerful Inflammation promoter and also the Insulin itself damages the micro-blood vessels feeding the lower extremeties so neuropathy is the result..There's alot more to it in the book but thats the basic jest of it. I'm sure there are other reads about this but this is where i read this....Later !!

One of the first conditions, docs will rule out is impaired glucose tolerance or diabetes. Yet, tight blood sugar control has proven to help so many. Dieticians and many docs are not well versed in this so you may want to read Harry's (6ft3) advice. Diet, exercise, and supplements can also help immensely.

The first choice should be to try all non-narcotic options. If your doc is more disposed to write a script than anything else, find another doc. Narcs will cause rebound pain (make it worse) and cause you to have to increase your doses while slowly getting addicted. Narcs are so dangerous and can affect every organ in your body which is why they are meant for short-term acute care, not long-term chronic care. Yes, this is hard to hear because it is so daunting to know there are not many prescription medicinal options available. But certainly, you don't want to trade one issue for another.

I also have the terrible burning in both feet night and day. I tried Lyrica and about 10 other drugs. The bottom line is nothing helped. The one thing that might help a little is ice packs. It gives me temporary relief, plus the pain med oxycontin. Nothing else has worked for me, and to be quite honest, it's only a temporary fix.

P.S. hope it helps

I use icy hot or polar ice on my feet and legs to cool them down and it works pretty good. Of coarse I am on pain meds to. Lonnie

I really appreciate the replies.

To those of you that suggested me getting off of narcotics. Thing is, I'm not allowed to. First off, I have other problems aside neuropathy which pain meds are needed for that case. My pain doc is fully aware of my PN & GP & epilepsy & kidney disease & more... He's playing with my meds right now. At first I was on Dilaudid, then later Dilaudid & Fentanyl & lidoderm patch 5%; then it changed to Dilaudid & methadone; and lastly I'm now on methadone only except the frequency is more than it was when I was on Dilaudid too.

I can't stop the meds and I actually wanted too because I have way too much meds, but thing is...each meds attack each issues I'm dealing with. I just think that the nerve problem has to do with what occurred during one surgery.

When I had my PEG out and had a G/J surgery, the GI doc placed it right in front of a 'nerve' that we ALL NEED (vagus nerve). Well, that nerve is now damaged (it's a nerve that tells your stomach to start the digestive process & to control bile production etc.., now it's damaged).
Im starting to think that the NP was caused by a simple surgery for GI issues (GP) and the nerve got damaged.

I may ask the doc to add another med to my already meds, but I doubt it. Right now my doc said that if I have one of those "flare-ups" (burning feet/walking on glass feelings) then to double my Lyrica dosage. So far it's been working, however I am struggling with another problem

edema

What can I do about this? This is very annoying and it occurs everyday. It can be feet only, feet & ankle, feet & ankle & leg, right hand only, right side only, left hand only, left side...even right face only or left face. It is hideious and I'm tired of enduring the issues and some days it's too much that I have to take 1 of my grandma's lasix (rx'ed water pill).

Right now my doc ran some test (chem14), if it shows any abnormalities then she'll run an ANA test (test on whether I have Lupus or not). Apparently she's thinking I may have lupus too because I display all the symptoms.

So if I DO have it, that's another problem to add to my list of already 'said' problems.

I'm tired, running on/off fever (usually it rises when I'm in pain and goes down when I have pain meds), very very stiff, bad headache, abdominal pain, dizzy/lightheadiness, low blood pressure, odd marks on my body, nerve pain (depends on location-- and depends on type *burn or walk on glass*), stomach issues (severe, severe gastroparesis. I'm already considered a canidate for a stomach pacemaker), neurological issues (constant black outs/fainting/seziuring).

Trust me, all my doc aside my GI (have another GI now & will see him tmw) are all on the same page. They know what they're doing and after the GI doc appt, I have to go to the admission desk in the hospital and get signed in (they're holding a bed for me). I am going to be tested for many things, more specifically the edemas. They want to check my heart (echocardiogram) because of previous heart attack (twice).

anyway, I appreciate all of y'alls responses.

When my feet hurt and they feel like they are on fire I use the Therea-Gesic cream that is a pain relieving cream that you can get at Wal Mart or any drug store. I also take Alpha Lipoic Acid 300 mg in the morning and in the evening for tingling toes. I get my Alpha Lipoic Acid from www.puritan.com for it is so much cheaper than the drug stores.
