View Full Version : Nailpolish Drying

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on drying nailpolish.
I hardly ever use it because I have so much trouble with this. I love wearing it, especially this one color I bought the other day. It's gorgeous but it simply doesn't work since it takes forever to dry, literally hours, and I always mess it up. This is the case with all different kinds I've tried except for clear since that tends to dry super fast.

I always apply two coats. I apply the first one, wait for it to dry, and than a second one. The first coat dries really fast, but once I apply the second I have to wait forever to do anything because I always mess up a couple of nails and have to re-paint them... and than have to sit and wait for those to dry.
Honestly, this is really time consuming. Just yesterday I applied it on my nails, waited around for like almost an hour for it to dry. I thought it was okay, but than as I was tying my shoelaces I noticed a few nails were all messed up.
I have no clue what to do since I've tried everything, blowing on them, using a blowdryer, a fan, I even had one of those small nail machine things that you stick your fingers inside of and it blows cold air on the nails to dry them faster. Nothing works.

Does anybody have any suggestions that will make this stuff dry faster? I'm so sick of having wait for hours for it to dry and still messing up nails and having to redo them constantly.

A lot of nail polishes will dry most of the way pretty quick.. but I know what you mean about how they can be tacky feeling and smudge if you touch them by accident.

Have you ever tried one of those top coats meant to make the nails dry faster? I picked up a cheap one at the store and it did seem to help. Also, putting my fingers under running water (cool water) can help. I read it in a magazine and surprisingly it won't mess it up (just let it run gently). Besides those things, the only other thing I can think of is to try a different brand.. some dry quicker than others and you might have to experiment.

Thanks!
I haven't tried using top coats but I'll definitely have to get one of those if it helps.
The water tip is a great trick. I think I've heard of that before but haven't tried it. Thanks again. I'm definitely going to give both a try.

I was given this tip from a place where i get my nails done. After they are pretty dry. Dip your nails in a cold water bowl for about a min and let it dry. I tried it a couple times and it actually works. No smudges :) good luck.

Also, make sure your color coats are THIN. Thin dries faster then thick.

Thanks everyone!
I'm definitely trying them all since I'm like desperate to keep my nailpolish looking good, haha. I hate when it messes up especially when I spend so much time trying to get it all nice and neat.

Try Orly In a Snap, it works great. You can get it at Sally's Beauty Supply.

I know this might sound strange  - but here's what I do to get my nails to dry. Start with a base coat and let it dry (this usually will dry very quickly) then apply to THIN coats of polish - letting each coat dry for a few minutes before applying the next, then apply a fast drying top coat. I give it a couple of minutes to start drying and then I get out the cuticle oil. What you say? Cuticle Oil??? Yes! :) Cuticle oil!! I put a layer of cuticle oil on my nails and for some reason it seems to make the polish dry faster. But the best part is that it protects the color while it's drying and if I bump something I don't mess up my polish. And I get the added benefit of moisturzing my cuticles the skin around my nails.

Hope this helps!

I think I do have some cuticle oil somewhere. I didn't know it worked for this. I'll definitely try all these and see which works the best.
