Hi all,
Can someone help me learn to curl my hair? I have long, naturally wavy, fine hair. I bought a 1.5" barrel iron and want to know the best way to go about curling. Dirty hair? What products should I use, etc?

Thanks!

What I usually do is use a heat protecting spray (there are many brands out there.. I just use a spray instead of a serum when I'm curling). Then I take small sections of hair to curl. Whenever I take a 2 inch section like some people say, mine won't curl. I wrap up my hair trying to make it more like a spiral over the barrel, not overlapping over itself every time.

The most important thing is to NOT unwind the curl, more slide it off, gently tugging down on it if that makes sense. If I just unclamp the curl, my hair will just curl at the ends and won't get a spiral. How long I leave it on the iron depends on the section. I probably leave it on around 8 seconds.

Afterwards definitely don't brush your hair!! It will lose the curl. Finger comb it if you must and mist on some hairspray (sometimes you can put on hairspray before also) to keep the curl all day.
