Hi, I'm new here. I'm a 26 year old male and have been seeing a constant floater from the time i wake up until i go to bed. it's been with me since january. it mostly stays in the shape of a black dot but sometimes will turn into a squiggly line. i've seen my pcp about this and he says it's some kind of "build up" in my eye and it could possibly go away in a day or never at all? this thing is driving me crazy. do any of you know what it could be?

Hi,
I have the same thing, I'm sad to break the news that mine has been with me for 2 years now, (I'm only 21) and I have accepted the fact that it will probably be with me forever-I was told by an opthamologist that it could either be a build up of fat or protein inside my eye-
I know how annoying it is, but there doesnt seem to be anything you can do about it-I was told my brain might learn to ignore it, but so far that hasnt happened,
Also recently I have started to get alot of smaller ones in my other eye, I would recommend taking an eye suppliment now to stop any further damage-can I ask if you work with computers?
:)

thanks for the reply!
So it looks like we're in it for the long run :-( it just boggles my mind that doctors haven't figured out the cause of this when so many people seem to be suffering from the same thing. I do work with computers. I've been working with them for about 5 or 6 years now. I'm actually just figuring out that computers are not for me and am looking for another job.

Hi,
I have had a big floater (along with many small ones) that looks like a big black spider or fly, swinging on a thread in front of my right eye for the past 4 years. I was told they may go away by themselves but I'm not holding my breath. You do kind of get to the point where you live with it. But, if not for the eye dr. appt. to check the floaters, I wouldn't have found out that I have glaucoma in both eyes and wouldn't have started treatment for it in time to save most of my vision. (The floaters had nothing to do with the glaucoma.) So I'm one person who is glad for the floaters that were bad enough to make me go to the eye dr.! :)

i suppose you're right Robin. i got the referral from my pcp to see an eye doc. i may as well get it checked out to make sure i have nothing else wrong.
