Was fine except they spent a lot of time scanning the right kidney and pressing hard and asking me to take very deep breaths and holding them. They scanned the bladder and were mentioning the aorta?
Then they did the left kidney, didn't press hard and no very deep breaths. That side was over quickly.
I am so scared that something horrible is wrong with my right kidney. I have diabetes. blood and protein in the urine, fairly good blood pressure. bottom number is awesome. Top can elevate at times.

Seeing as they spent so much time on that right kidney do you all think the worst? The tech wouldn't tell me anything.
My blood creatine is 1.5 and bun is 38. I also am anemic.
Does damage usually occur on both sides. or could only one kidney be involved? I'm scared.

Also had more blood work and a 24 hour urinalysis. I don't know when the results will all be back.

Hi there,

I had a similar situation than you. They spent alot of time on my right kidney and almost breezed right by my left kidney. The Ultrasound tech wasn't telling me anything but making very severe faces while scanning my right kidney. I worried the whole week until I saw my doctor and she told me that I had a very small kidney stone in my right kidney and that it must've been very hard to see which explains why the tech was spending so much time.
I saw the urologist last week and he said that a CT scan was the way to go because it can pick up smaller stones where ultrasound can sometimes miss them.
I understand your concern, but it's best to wait and hear from your doc! I made myself sick with worry.

Best of Luck.

I noticed that the tech was grunting a bit when he scanned my right kidney and spent so much time there and pressed so hard that I really believe he saw something. I see the nephro tomorrow so I guess I'll find out, but it is so worrisome. I'm thinking all sorts of things from a mass inside to a shrunken kidney or worse. I wish they would be able to tell you something. The Nephro ordered another spot urine test today and I had to run in with another specimen.
I'll know tomorrow.

It's really insane what worry can do, isn't it? I went through that as well. My ultrasound tech was very European and had a thick accent. She would say certain things and then just stop. Though when I asked her if everything was alright she told me I had a small stone but then recoiled after she said it because she knew she wasn't supposed to. The odd thing is that the tech pressed really really hard on my right kidney and it was my left one that actually had the stone afterall. The techs press hard when they are looking for something so if your ultrasound/x-ray sheet read "look for kidney stones" than that could be the reason he/she was being so thorough. Please keep me updated on how you're doing.
