I went to my eye doctor for a check up. He looked at the white rings around the pupils of my eyes and suggested I have a cholesterol check. I did.

Number are:

CL 307

TR 221

HDL 70

LDL 191

47 years old, not overweight, active, and drink enough coffee to float a battleship, and yes I like creme and sugar in my coffee. Quit smoking about 1 year ago.

Doctor gave me a prescription for Crestor 10mg. Take these for 6 weeks and come back to see me.

After reading all the side effects and things on Crestor, I am a little afraid to take them. I am considering changing my diet and lowering my coffee consumption and forgoing the crestor for now. What do you think?

Any help would be apprciated and I thank you in advance.

Danny,

You have a superb HDL but not good enough to overcome the other numbers.

WHy not followe sane convervative measures for 6 months and retest to see if you can get lower a lower LDL.
If you drink a lot of coffee, why not try fat-free half and half for it.

High coffee consumption doesn't wreck cholesterol control, but a lot of cream will.

Can you manage a diet of <20% fat and high fiber? Are you at all overweight? If so get your weight down. Eat far less meat and no cold cuts except turkey or lean beef.

If this doesn't work, you'll need to get on a statin.

Amazing that your eye doctor could spot the cholestorol in your eyes? I'd never heard that.

Thanks Lenin!

Like I said I read the warnings on these little pills and was thinking the cure was worse than the problem. The warnings also said that these should be used when a change in diet/life style is not effective. The doctor never mentioned a change in diet or anything. His nurse called and said these are your numbers, take the pills and come back in 6 weeks. hmmmm

And yes my eye doctor found it. I do not know if you can past a web page or not but I did find an article on it. Located at:

So I take it when you mention "sane conservative measurements" you are talking about life style and diet.

Also, Yes I love the sweet tasting french vanilla for my coffee and of yes it is high fat. Sniff Sniff {Maybe I need to drink some wine! hahaha} That would be interesting at work!

Again..Thanks Lenin

I see the board cut some of the web page off. If you google the phrase
[removed], you will see what the eye doctor was talking about!

Thanks all!
