Hey there all

Well, I dont know if I am writing this to get a reply, or just writing to see if it will help my head sort out a bit.

I am not at all thin, I really mean that, I am not just thinking I am fat, I really am.

I dont eat too much, I mean yesterday I had half a sandwich and a peice of pizza and I wasnt even hungry when I had those. That is a pretty typical day for me. I eat not much and dont get hungry, and dont lose any weight. I am not not eating to lose weight, I just dont get hungry.

Not sure exactly why I am writing this, just am.

Thanks for letting me rant. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hi Catriona,
I'm not exactly sure why you wouldn't lose weight when you eat so little. How active are you? A person's activitly level greatly affects metabolism and how many calories the body burns even while resting.

Tricky--

Thank you for responding. I dont know why I dont lose it. I am not doing this to lose it but I think I should be.

Anyway, I am relatively active. I dont go out and do a lot of strenuous exercise but I do walk a lot and am pretty physical in my studies.

Anyway, thanks for caring http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hi Catriona,

I am not a doctor and I struggle with weight issues myself but I think part of the reason you are not losing weight is that you have to eat to lose weight. It sounds funny but if you get up in the morning and have a good breakfast (bran flakes, eggbeaters or something like that) and then go about an active day you will actually speed up your metabolism and will actually feel hungrier because your body will need more fuel to keep on going. The problems arise when you are not moving all day or when you do eat you choose stuff like cake or pizza over other things like chicken, whole wheat pasta, lowfat yogurt etc.

Once you have sped up your metabolism then when you do eat pizza or other things like that your body will burn it much faster and you will in turn lose weight...

I hope this helps and doesn't sound preachy or like a cheezy diet manual...

Good luck with everyday living!!!

I have to agree with what the previous poster said. I've been doing a lot of reading lately about nutrition, hoping that I can figure out a way to eat without feeling so bad about it!), and almost everything I've read says that you have to eat healthy foods, in enough quantity to lose weight (or to even just maintain your weight). They say that if you eat healthy foods, and enough of them, your body will not think it is starving, and it will let your metabolism act normally. Your body only is getting things like processed flour and sugars, etc., so it holds on to all those calories, because it thinks you are starving! It's the same deal for people who actually are starving themselves (ahem...), if you start eating, of course you will gain weight (or get sick!), but if you eat healthy foods, your body will be happy and it will not try to hold on to all those calories. Sorry if this sounds weird, that's just how I had to simplify it for myself in order to understand it. Anyway, there are a lot of websites about eating healthy, if you want, you can email me and I will tell you some of the sites I read.

Thank you Peeka and Lil. I guess in some ways I dont eat healthy, but when I look at some of my friends I definately do. I mean, when we go to lunch I will have a salad sandwich or fruit or something like that and they all eat hot chips or pies or something along those lines.

Soon though I will be eating healthier than ever even if I dont want to so I guess life will get better for my body right!?! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Anyway, thanks again for your replies.

het Catriona,

From what you said, it does seem like you don't eat enough, even though it may be pizza. I think you might have a thyroid problem. It's called hypothyroidism? Anyway, its when your thyroid, which is what controls your metabolic rate, is sorta, not working right, and so your metabolism slows down big time. This might be the reason why you eat little but are still not losing weight. There are other symptoms, such as constant fatigue, dizziness or light-headedness, low-blood pressure, and some other stuff. Maybe you can do some research on it, perhaps on Healthboard on that topic, and go check it out with a doctor. He'll be able to run some tests to see if you do have a thyroid problem, and he can prescribe medication to fix things up. I had a friend who was somewhat heavy but she ate really healthy and not even that much! It turned out that she too had hypothyroidism. Anyway, hope i've helped a bit.

love, Jenuine

Jenuine--

Thank you for your advice. My mother and sister have Hoshimotos Thyroiditis. I think it is the same as what you have described. I have let my doc know and I think he ran some tests for that, not sure because there were so many.

Anyway, because of other health problems, my whole attitude has changed. Everything about my life is about to change. I am hoping that maybe my weight will, and if not, who cares, I am me and that is all I can be.

Catriona,
Everyone is right~to keep your metabolism up you have to eat a little. If you're trying to lose weight I find that running does it the fastest. Another thing is that even if you're only eating a tiny little bit(like you) you have to be careful since that lowwers your metabolism that you eat healthy things like salad. Things like pizza have a lot of fat and if your metabolism is low...well you get it. Just make sure you're healthy about losing weight b/c it can be really addictive and soon you realize you can't stop and you're frienking out when you drink tea and jotting down how many calories are in it so you can work them off later.
Good luck!
Lily

Hello to all who have replied...thank you for caring. It always feels good to know that someone cares.

Anyway, just to clarify something, I do not regularly eat pizza or things like that. It was a one off. Just gave you an example of how much I was eating. Ordinarily I eat things like plain rolls or fruit, plain pasta or things like that.

Thanks again http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
