Hi. I naturally have dirty ash dark blonde hair. I have been giving myself blonde highlights for years. By highlights I mean I highlight most of my head! I use clairol born blonde w/ a cap. I love the results. It blends very well with my natural color but I dont have that drab ash look. For the fall/winter I want to dye my hair a golden brown. I was thinking of going with a semi-permanent color, because next summer I'm going to want to go blonde again. Should I dye my hair all over ash blonde (natural color) and then dye golden brown over it? can anyone helP?

My best advice for you is to go to a professional, tell them what you've done, what you want to do, let them do what won't hurt your hair.

My hair is naturally brown, but I highlighted my hair over and over until it was pretty much completely blonde. I dyed my own hair back brown over it. First I used Clairol Natural Instincts (semipermanent) and eventually did it permanent. If your hair is bleached, it will probably come out DARKER than what the color looks like. I'm not sure how naturally blonde hair would come out, but all of my friends who have theirs bleached blonde have come out fine when they do it themselves darker. It will fade some even if it's permanent.. doesn't stay as dark as it is at first!

Of course, if you are worried about it, definitely go to a professional!! You can always get some lowlights done at first if you want to go darker gradually. Good luck!!
