Hi, I have had visual disturbances in my vision off and on for years. I get waves that look like heat coming off hot pavement and some zig zaggady lightning like things and they are identical in both eyes, happening at the same time. This lasts about 30 minutes and I don't get a headache afterwards. Could I be suferring from headache-less migranes?? Thanks for your help!
I think it is possible that these are "silent migraines". This may be a symptom of having high platelets - have you had a blood test lately?

Thanks so much for your reply. I haven't had them tested lately. I am a diabetic and I go to the doc every six months. I have tested my blood sugar during one of these episodes and it was OK. I am having an episode now. I have had 3 of them in 24 hours which has never happened in the past. I normally only have 1 episode every 6 months or so. This has been for the last 20 years or so. If this continues this weekend, I think I better see the doc.

I have had them since I was 16 yrs old.....its called migraine with aura, sometimes you get a headache sometimes you don't or you can get a headache a few days after having them. I quit eating cheese, hotdogs, chocolate, anything with sodium nitrate in it. it has helped me I may only have one a year or sometimes I may have 2 or 3 in a month then not have any for a couple years.

Twinklee, as Cat says there can be triggers, so keep track of what you're doing and eating before you get one. It is not unusual to have the aura go away and come back again awhile later. I wouldn't be too concerned.
The trigger in my case is a sore back/neck. The pattern of migraine has changed over the years. Once I got an aura and a headache; then I started getting an aura without the headache; now I get multiple auras during a single day.
I'm really going to have to look up this electro-magnetic gizmo I talk about to see if it's available yet to stop migraines.

Thanks for your help. I have spinal stinosis and 2 bulging discs. I always have tight shoulders and tension in my neck. Maybe that is a contributing factor.

Diabetics cannot afford to take any chance with an eyesight problem.
I think you defiantly need to see the DR.
That said, I'm not diabetic and I get those Ocular Migranines.
I've gotten them for decades.
I get them less often the last few years.
I find placing a cold wet paper towel over the unhappy eye for a few min helps a great deal.
I used to actually get premenstral migraines too and am grateful that I don't get the actual headache pain itself anymore.

Hi there... do a search on the internet on "ocular migraines", because that is what it sounds like you might be experiencing

it could just be visual aura what happens before a migrain but some people dont acutally get the headaches
