Any Adults with Aspergers Syndrome ever found that only one side of there brain functions normally. The left side of my brain just doesn't seem to function almost like there is a blockage or something. I can't express emotions either which really bugs me. Any answers would be appreciated?

I always thought of myself as something of a "nerd." My brain functions for academic subjects, but it seems that certain social aspects of life are difficult for me.

If you have Asperger's, it should be your right hemisphere that isn't functioning correctly. Asperger's is now being considered a type of Nonverbal Learning Disorder (NVLD), and NVLD's involve right hemispheric deficits, such as visual-spatial difficulties, problems with emotional responses, and inability to read social cues. The left hemisphere is often dubbed the "logical hemisphere," and that's what most Aspies are- logical. The left side also is where language is prevalent, explaining why most Aspies excel in vocabulary and may even be hyperlexic as a child (I was). All people with Asperger's have different brain circuitry than neurotypicals, and this is what brings on our symptoms. Our brain functioning simply isn't "normal," and we have to learn to compensate with our deficits in order to succeed. This is a very hard task. I've dealt with having to rely on my photographic memory and ability to find patterns for visual-spatial subjects ever since kindergarten. Otherwise, I'd fail...

Thats very interesting. I'm not saying I don't believe you but is there anywhere on the internet that you can back this up as fact? I would like to read about it. So far the doctors think I am suffering from Schizophrenia and Aspergers Syndrone. I have already counted out Schizophrenia as I don't really have the symptons and now It looks like I could be counting out Aspersgers Syndrone too.

Gatsby,
I too, am awful at spatial tasks. My area of strength is language. A personal inventory of my strengths and weaknesses, plus my interests, leads me to suspect I have Asperger's.

If you simply look up anything dealing with the similarities between Asperger's and NVLD, you should find the evidence. Why do you think the left side of your brain isn't functioning?

Because I know how it used to be before I was ill. It was just like the right side is, fine! The left side feels blocked, dull, numb and unresponsive. I cannot express emotions either. There is something not right with my nose either on the top left side almost like it has caved in under pressure. The right side is fine, nice and strong. When i get really anxious I feel it on the top left side of my nose and in the head obviously.

Do you mean that your entire left side (face, arms, etc.) feels numb? Because if this is the case, then I'd say that you definitely DO have some sort of right hemispheric damage. The right hemisphere controls the left side of the body, so if something happened to your right hemisphere, then you'd have problems with the left side of your body.

Have you ever had an fMRI done? Have you ever had any sort of brain scan?

Haven't heard of FMRI but I'm assuming it is the same as an MRI. I have had both an MRI and CAT scans done and both showed no abnomalalities so this is really puzzling me.

Just out of left field...
Could the problem be psychological rather than phisiological?

I have seen psychistrists and psychologists its really been no help. Some people will say maybe I haven't seen the right ones but I doesn't matter who I see I am still dysfunctional. I have taken anti depressants and anti psychotics and they don't make a difference. This is why I think it is physiological.
