About a year ago I split my pinky toenail vertically. My toenail eventually healed but there is a brownish line where I split it. I blew it off thinking it was nothing but I have noticed it looking more darker. After reading the internet now I'm wondering if this is something to worry about. Is is normal to have this happen after an injury or could it possibly be fungus? It hasn't spread to my whole nail just where I split it and it's about 2mm wide. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Does the line go all the way from the cuticle to the free edge? If so, I would have your podiatrist or dermatologist look at it. If not, it is probably just an area where dirt, etc gets trapped in the split layers.

I pushed my cuticle back and it starts from the cuticle to the free edge of my nail where I split it. I made an appt. to see a dermatologist hopefully it's nothing serious.
