Most apparati have you hanging by your feet, and you are strapped into special boots, usually on a flat surface, called an inversion table. I actually hang by my 'lap' (thighs) on my apparatus. Some believe that using the natural weight of your body, and gravity, hanging up-side-down', is enough weight to pull down on your spinal column and stretch it, to 'widen the gap' between your vertebrae. They believe that inverting can relieve pressure on a bulging disk. Some believe that a bulging disk will go back into place if you invert often enough. It's like traction, but its your own body weight that pulls on your spine. I have two mildly bulging disks, L-4, and L-5. I've been having sciatica and related back issues for 4 months. I've been inverting for about 3 weeks, 3 times a day, for about 3 minutes at a time, and I've noticed a considerable improvement. I have much less pain since I've been inverting. [removed] mamakitkat 09-23-2006, 01:35 AM Hi, I have a neighbor that uses a inversion table, she has severe scoliosis since birth, and is in her 60's now, has been told her spine is collapsing in on itself now, so she uses this and it has been a tremendous success for her. I do hope if you try this you consult your dr., it can do damage if your condition does not meet certain criteria. Good Luck God Bless Carol indychris 09-23-2006, 07:48 AM Wow, inversion therapy sound like a good idea. I have had a few back problems for 30 years a couple years after I was in a car accident with a train. I do some stretching and weight training every day. When I don't I find it easy to pull something. I have one of those exercise machines you buy on TV and when I hang upside down on it it does seem to make me feel better. By for now Chris webdude 09-25-2006, 05:58 PM I heard alot of good things about inversion therapy, BUT, go slowly.. Sometimes, people can get spasms from hanging, so start easy and slow, and for a short time, then increase over time... M |
