Hi Everyone,
I'm hoping no one is up this late to read this, but if you are you have company. I had a scare this evening, I was sweeping the steps and backed up off the step too soon and went backwards down the last two steps. Thank good ness the wall was there to stop me from actually falling, but it sure gave my back a jolt I was not looking for. I'm so worried now that I may have caused some problems, I'm so sore now. I know my advice to someone else would be to take it easy and see how I feel in a few days. I guess I'm just looking for some one to either agree or tell me what I shuld be looking for.

For those who don't know my story, I had my last fusion last nov. anterior/posterior. It was a redo from two failed fusions. So youcan see why I'm a lil put off by this mishap.

Thanks in advance!

God Bless

Carol

Hi Carol,

Of course you're going to be sore; think how your body instinctively reacted to the mishap. You probably used muscles you haven't used in a long while. Rest and baby yourself - just like you said. Wow, you sure have had it these past few days. Are the numbness and dizziness any better?

God bless

Carol, I hope you were able to get some sleep and feel a little better today. Yeah, I agree that you could rest and wait. Realistically, unless you want to go to the ER, your doctor probably wouldn't see you before Monday anyway. You'll probably know by tomorrow if you need to call the doc on Monday.

Let someone else finish sweeping the stairs! :-)

Take care, and REST,
Emily

Hi Carol,

I am sorry to hear what has happened! You are such an inspiration to us all. I have actually fallen twice and nearly fallen several times in the last few months. I had my posterior lumbar fusion in May and I was terrified I messed something up. I was sore for a few days and really concerned about my balance over all but all seems to be well. I do hurt all of the time still since the surgery. I thought I would feel better by now but I do have "better" days some days. I have my 1st post op CT scan so if anything happened due to my falls it will show up. Let your body be your guide as to whether or not to call the doc. You have been through so much I am sure it will let you know. I hope everything goes well though and that rest will truly be your best medicine this time.

Thinking of you,
Lisa

Hi Carol. Gosh.. sorry I was not up last night or I would have chatted back to you. Sorry to hear. Hopefully you will be just sore from the sudden movement and will calm down in few days.

We did some power exercises in PT Thursday and since then.. I now have a numb right foot and my sciatica is BACK (which I have not had since surgery). I am scared to death.. I've done something. Will have to wait it out to see if it improves or not. I have therapy Monday and will chat with her about it then. I have to increase my pain meds and sit for the most part, as I am now limping some too.

So I understand completely how you are mentally feeling right now. Hang in there, I'll do the same and we will both hope for the best. Rest well.

Hi Carol-I am sorry for your fall. As I read your thread, I could just imagine what it would feel like and I know my heart would have been pounding, concerned that I had done something to my back. But from what I have been told, with the hardware in place...it would take a lot to actually do damage. So, I am thinking that you will probably have more pain due to bruises and muscle spasms rather than from any damage. I hope you are feeling back on track soon.

Please keep us posted,
Lorie:angel:

Hi Everyone,
Thank you ALL so very much for the support. I'm so glad to see you all agree with me on waiting and resting this one out till monday. I will call the doc monday. I am still very sore, but not by the scars (thats good I think). I do have major pain at about the middle of my right butt cheek, it is a very pinpointed pain along with just plain old muscle pain in my back. I'm not as worried as I was since it happened, but I did have to up my pain meds a bit.

Oh Tammy, I'm so sorry your not feeling good. It is very scary, I so understand that one. I will be praying for you big time. Please keep us updated. God Bless!

I did not see the doc about the dizziness & numbness yet, I had to cancel last week but I'm going to see a new dr. that was recommended to me by my spine dr. he is an internist and did my clearance for the last fusion. So he knows my history too.

You will never know how good it feels to see so much support, I was feeling rather stupid for a while there. You know how that goes, "how stupid for me to not be more careful, I can't do anything to help around the house" that kind of thing. I am over that now and just resting to get back to where I was.

Thanks again!!!

God Bless all of you!

Carol

So Carol, how is your dizziness, and when do you see the internist? I think that's a really good choice. Glad to here you don't think you hurt anything important; I'm sure you could tell. I'm praying for you.
