my stylist asked if i wash my hair every other day or day after, and i wash my hair everyday. i was just wondering if others wait a day or two before washing or if it causes damage to wash your hair everyday? I have to at least wet my hair if i dont wash it but it feels gross and i feel like i have to wash it everyday. I got straightening and highlights and wondering if that would wash the color out etc if i wash my hair everyday? the beautition said my hair is very strong.

According to a lot of stylists, you're not supposed to wash your hair very often (unless you have very oily hair). Every other day or every 3 days is just fine since that keeps your hair healthier and stronger.
Washing it everyday will definitely cause more damage especially if you blowdry and style it every time.
As far as washing out the color goes... it probably does affect the color. It depends on the highlights I guess, and how your hair handles that. My hair doesn't hold onto color very well at all, so frequent washing definitely fades out the color very quickly.
I would personally suggest that you don't wash your hair every single day unless it's very oily. You'll be fine just washing it every few days. It's up to you I guess... Just make sure to take care of it and protect it from heat and whatnot.

My roommate washes her hair EVERY day and always blow dries and flat irons every day as well. Her hair has never been colored though.. but her hair is very healthy. If I straighten mine, I'll skip a day, but when I don't straighten it, I usually wash it every day. I think you just have to see what works for your hair. If you hair is oily, it can handle more washing a lot more than somebody with dry hair. I had damaged hair about 1/2 a year ago and could go probably like a week and my hair wouldn't even feel oily at all.
With the highlights, using some shampoos can fade the color or make it brassy. Salons suggest using products made for color treated/highlighted hair. They make lavender colored shampoos that are good for keeping blonde highlights from going brassy. If yours fade, you can try some of those out, but if they don't, then you are just lucky!
If you are concerned and notice any damage in your hair, they make hair powders that absorb any greasy oily at the roots so you can skip a shampoo without feeling gross. However, if your hair looks good and is healthy, then you might as well keep doing as you do! If you have strong hair, you must be doing it all right for yourself :) !

I wash my hair once every week. I have very healthy hair. It's long and very curly. I talked to my hair dresser and she said it was ok to do this It's not like I am going to the gym and getting nasty. So it works for me. Kc

It really totally depends on the individual. If you have oily hair then you may have to wash it every day because it will stink from the oils and will be all limp and greasy looking. I'd say "thank the gods" if you don't have that problem. I would love to be able to skip days but my hair is very fine and straight and OILY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh my god it's so oily and has always been since I can remember and isn't getting any better as I'm getting old. I once had some busy body know it all tell me (someone with very think curly dry hair) that I should not wash my hair every day and then I spent the night at her house and she then saw what my hair looks like in the morning so she quickly retracted her statement....HAHAHA!!!!!:D This is a true story!

Hello,
My stylist told me to wet my hair everyday in the shower but not to use shampoo everyday. I was apprehensive as I thought my hair would not shine, it does and it adds a thickness to the hair by not using shampoo every time. I just rinse it until it squeaks, then blow dry as usual. Hair appears much fuller.

The hair weakens with the shampoo i think...well what I remember was that when I was in university and we were studying about stress, strain and tension, there was a paragraph about an experiment that had been done with a hair. The result was that the strength (tension) of one single hair before shampooing it was approximately the same as aluminium. After shampooing it it was approximately 1/3 of the original strength!!!!!
And it is true, I have realised that with my hair. I use to wash them once a week (the don't get oily very easily) and they are thick, I never lose hair (only if I comb it hard). But the first day that I will wash them, I find my hair all around them during the first two days. They feel shiny, and clean and healthy, but the strength has vanished a bit...i think...
Then the same happens with my eyebrows. Impossible to plock them out after I have washed my hair (and the shampoo has gone on my face). every hair of my eyebrows that I want to plock out, just breaks in the middle...
But, this is only what I have observed!!

Water and shampoo definitely do weaken hair.
I've read many times that you're not supposed to brush, or even comb your hair (if you don't have to) when it's wet because it's so much weaker. I guess combing it with a wide-tooth comb is okay so long as you don't do it too much.
I personally have really long hair so I HAVE to brush/comb it when it's wet... but it definitely does fall out a lot.
I guess that's also how you get split ends :(.
