Pantene Purity is hands down the worst shampoo i have ever used.... a year ago, i had the thickest hair imaginable.... now, i have a ton of thinning where i applied the shampoo with my hands and i have thinning and bald spots on the sides and back of my scalp.... I have noticed that the ingredients of this shampoo have changed over time, which shows that Procter and Gamble know what's going on. I have also heard of other people who have complained about Pantene products, and how they cause hair loss. Obviously, Procter and Gamble are completely incompetent.
Has anyone else had experience with this piece of **** product? Also, would there be anychance of my hair growing back?

I dont use any commercially avialable shampoo, they usually contain Urea which is a mineral extracted from pig urine and glycol which is used in the cooling systems of motor vehicles, frankly I'm not surprised your hair is falling out.

When did you use this shampoo? You just used it or when? If you just used it then yes it could be the shampoo but if it was a while back and you are now seeing this hair falling out problem...I would certainly look elsewhere for what is cause you to loose your hair!!!!!!!! If the shampoo is the cause for your hair to fall out then certainly your hair will grow back but frankly I have never heard of anything like this happening from shampoo. I've heard of it drying hair out. I certainly do agree that Pantene is changing their ingredients and the more they "improve" it the worse it gets. My hair has become very dry from Pantene but it's not falling out except for maybe what was so tangled that I ripped it from my scalp trying to comb my hair out or blow dry it:rolleyes:

I have never heard of that either and I used to wash my hair with Pantene all the time before.
Over time I noticed buildup and people constantly talking about how it's bad for hair, so I stopped using it.
I agree with keepsgoin... If you just started using it and your hair started falling out than it must be from the shampoo (though that's very strange). But if you used it a while ago and than your hair gradually started falling out than it's probably something else.
Pantene seems to improve their products all the time. The new commericals look amazing... the girl's hair is like gorgeous, but I know it's definitely from that shampoo. They keep making "shinier" formulas... yeah right.
You should probably figure out whether your problem could be caused by something else because a shampoo certainly shouldn't cause your hair to fall out like that.
Good luck.

I've heard Pantene in general, is really bad on hair. A person who was studying hairdressing told me that it causes wax build up and you can literally scrape it off the hair. It is also harder to colour hair b/c of this. I wouldn't try any brand of Pantene, no matter how many times they change their formula!

I noticed a change in the shape of my hair right when i started using it. I noticed that i did not have to cut my hair as often after istarted using it too. It is really weird...
I used to have a head full of thick hair... but at the places where i applied the shampoo, it has thinned... and not just the amount of hair... the hair itself has thinned too. It looks incredibly unnatural. And i am reading a TON of complaints on other forums about the same thing... i just wish i would have heard of them before... Procter and Gamble should be sued! Noone use Pantene!

Wow I am really sorry to hear about that. My roommate uses Pantene and has been using it for a while, but not the Purity kind. I don't know which one she uses but she seems to like it and her hair looks nice and doesn't frizz. She also flat irons it daily.
I don't care for Pantene for myself either.. none of the products have worked that well for me and even a deep conditioner that came with my haircolor was OKAY but not that great. As for the waxy buildup, Thermasilk also gave me pretty bad buildup when I was using it. My hair did not have breakage or any split ends at all, but my hair felt dry and my hairstylist said it was all buildup, used a good clarifying shampoo.. and my hair felt amazingly silky and much lighter!
I would think your hair would grow back.. I don't see why it would STOP the growth of your hair. Maybe it just made it really weak since it got so thin and was falling out. I just hope that your hair is able to grow back quickly! I would definitely using a volumizing product now. I use Loreal Vive Pro and really like it.

I rarely use anything except salon products, but tried pantene in a effort to save a few dollars. Forget that idea. I have allergies and my head itched something terrible. It did take me about a week to realize what was happening. I went back to familiar territory and the itching stopped the next day. I wish my other problems were that easy to solve.

Just so some of you know and are aware of the fact that all shampoos and conditioners, and just about all beauty products contain chemicals in them. A lot of them are classified as toxic, or linked to cancer. Educate yourself. You will learn so much. I had to do my own research because of skin problems and let me tell you. My skin has never been better. It is such an eye opener.

I so agree with you Susanna, a few years ago my hair and skin started reacting to everything I was using. I finally had to start making my own stuff and learning what not to put on my skin. I am very limited to what I use now, and I don't experiment with new product anymore because I break out from almost everything. And, companies put these crap fillers and thickeners in because they are cheap! They know this stuff does not serve the skin, at best, and is toxic at worst. They put trace amounts of the good stuff in, just to claim it on their labels, then charge for it, prices that are 500% markups or more.

I had hair loss from Pantene, too. It's garbage. I used Pantene Red Expresions only a total of three times. When I stopped using it, my hair stopped falling out. I don't know how that crap sells.

I used the regular Pantene for years and never had any problems with it. I do use Neutrogena once a week - have for years - to clear off the build up of product on the hair. I'm very sensitive to cosmetics and such. If it's all that bad, I'm surprised I didn't have trouble. My sister either as she has used Pantene for years.

If pantene is that bad and it is causing hair to fall out then why dont you hear of them being sued?
I have used it for years and have no problems, im not saying that this is not the case with any of you who claim it has ruined your hair, are you sure you are not allergic to any of the indgredients they use? And there is the possibility that when you switched to a different shampoo this may be because they use different ingredients???
Also i would be very careful what you say as you dont want to leave yourself open to any kind of back lash from the makers.

I wash my hair three times a week (it's very dry), so I don't think that's the case with me. I think it's just not a good shampoo for anybody. Every hair dresser I've ever had has told me that it's bad for the hair. And, it's not just to sell their salon products either, because one even recommended Loreal Vive (which works great by the way) and that's a drugstore brand.

You know, its funny. I had an InStyle mag one time and it was listing the "best" products to use everywhere from makup to bodywash to devices. Well the best lowprice shampoo and conditioner was......PANTENE!!! Yeah right Ill never ever believe those articles again, im sure they are paid to list those as the "picked favorites by whoever". I honestly never liked pantene because it just smelled too perfumy and it just made me feel like Im smelling strong chemicals. Yuck

I had my hair highlighted one time and the stylist asked me if I use Pantene by any chance. I said yes I do. She said she could tell because parts of my hair weren't "taking" the highlights. She left it on longer than normal to get that one spot to lighten up. For some reason it forms a build up like cover so areas of hair don't get even color. P

I have used Pantene for years and I absolutely love it. I have very long, straight, and thin hair and it's the only thing that makes it look so shiny and feel so soft and silky. I've never had problems with build-up either. Dunno, guess all people react differently to different products.

xtrish2002, which variety of Pantene do you use and like? I think it's the variety that makes the difference. I keep hearing everyone say that Pantene is SO BAD because it has silicone...then someone will suggest using one of those serums like Biosilk when that is almost nothing but silicone. I think that maybe we are being fed a lot of nonsense by cosmetic companies these days. I can only assume that the OP is having an allergic reaction to the variety of Pantene that they are using and in which case they should not use it anymore...of course. I do realize that silicone builds up on the hair which causes the hair to get dried out because that blocks out conditioners from conditioning the hair but that shouldn't cause the hair to fall out from the root.

Wow! I don't know what to think about this. I usually don't use Pantene but just happened to buy a bottle and the conditioner mask. I like the conditioner mask but I get highlights and I don't want to use it if it will comlpicate my highlighting.

I used Pantene shampoo/conditioner in one for years with wonderful results. And I'd always needed conditioner and all other 2 in 1 shampoos I'd tried were awful.
Then I googled Pantene and silicone expecting to find all kinds of experts saying how bad it was, but found nothing of the kind. In fact, I checked Paula Begoin, the cosmeticop and while she didn't review that product, there were reviews of other products in which she said they were fine, but didn't compare 'with similar conditioners from Pantene that include silicones with panthenol, an excellent hair-conditioning agent. ' She said that about Dove's Daily Intense conditioner.
So, 1, Pantene isn't the only conditioner with Silicone. and 2, Silicone isn't bad.
Buildup is the issue. You need to wash it out once in a while, and before you color, with a clarifying shampoo.

I agree with that. I personally never experienced wonderful results from those shampoos, but they never made my hair horrible either. It did produce buildup, but so does every other shampoo over time.
I now use a clariftying shampoo whenever I feel it's needed, and it works out.
A lot of people who have gone to salons claim that they were told that Pantene is the worst shampoo for hair. It seems that there are tons of others that are just as bad or worse.
My sister went to a salon and was told that Aussie is the best. She used it for a while and saw no difference in her hair so she switched to Tresemme since that shampoo seems to work well for her.
Than she went to a different salon just the other day and was told that Tresemme is one of the worst and that she should buy Biolage Matrix.
Ha, right.
Those salons just want you to spend a ton of money on their overpriced products that are all the same.
Oh, and apparently the woman who worked on her hair told her that the problem with all "cheap" shampoos is that the main ingredient is water. Uh, isn't water like a good thing?

Well the fact that the main ingredient is water in cheaper products doesn't make them bad for your hair...like you said..isn't water good?...it just means that they are watered down. I mean...jeez...what we are washing with IS water! Those hairdressers learn about products from sales reps for the salon products at hair shows. They want to sell us their expensive products...I do however have better results from salon conditioners though. Probably because they are more concentrated than the cheaper ones. Personally I have used Biolage and was NOT impressed one bit!

Yea, I agree.
Salon conditioners are good. They're usually thick and you don't have to use a lot to achieve good results. I like them. But the cheaper conditioning masks I've tried (Garnier Fructis) also work great for me.
I'd rather wash my hair with something that has water in it than tons of chemicals.
I hate how all these "hair experts" or whatever always say different things.

I broke out in a rash from Garnier hair color and then again with their Fructis shampoo/conditioner. I was just allergic to it so I don't use it anymore. I don't care for pantene conditioner. It makes my hair frizzier. I do like their new shine shampoo. It's great. I've had my hair highlighted, and then colored dark since I started using it and neither times did the stylist say I had a problem with build up.
I guess I'm worried that you either have a severe allergy to pantene, or you have some other medical issue that you aren't aware of. Thyroid problems can also cause you to lose your hair. Nutritional deficiencies can also cause hair loss. Before you start completely blaming the hair product, I would go see the doc.

wow, this is interesting!
i never thought about it before, but i used to use pantene too. and i stopped using it because my hair felt thin and it was flat looking... also, it seemed to always be in static electricity mode. like when you take a balloon and rub it on your head and your hair will follow the balloon around. whenever i would go get my hair cut i was confused because the stylist would always say i had SUCH dry hair. and i used the moisturizing pantene. my hair has looked a lot healthier since i stopped using it. i go back and forth from tresseme, and herbal essence now.

It's true, pantene is the worst. If you are having trouble with thinning hair get nioxin, it's supposed to be the best for that problem. Really drugstiore shampoos are not good. Getting something at supercuts greatclips etc.. is about the same price and much better for you hair.

I so long for the old first round of Pantene. The shampoo itself worked very good, I was allergic to the perfume smell though.
Then around 2000 they started changing the formula and it has been down hill every since. I stopped using it as a change back in 1999. Sad, they can't leave things alone and have to keep "improving" it, meaning making it cheaper I am sure.

I suspect it wasn't that Pantene was necessarily that good, it was just everything else was so much worse and couldn't figure out how to hide the damage like Pantene could. Now, there are so many fine shampoos and conditioners, all priced competitively, whether it's from a salon, a beauty supply store or where ever. Why take a chance on something with such a bad rep?

I totally agree with you. It is actually true, if you can't pronounce the ingredients they are not good for you. And I have seen a lot of products so called natural, but in truth have a lot of chemicals in it. In general, the products with propylene glucol, Sodium Laureth Sulphate, paraben and dioxane are toxic. We probably don't need to know a lot, just the basics and it will be fine. It took me more than 2 years to find the products for my hair and now I only use certified organics shampoo and conditioner, you can't trust the labels, you need to have an independent certification.

No one I know can use it, and its ment to be the most popular shampoo in Australia.
For your hair loss, you can visit a Trichiologist, which is a doctor that focus' is on the scalp and hair loss. as you know stress can cause hair loss, as can diet and having a baby.
I strongly advise you to see a specialist, just in case it wasnt the shampoo, and you continue to loose hair. Good luck!
