Have you been DX'ed with Fibro???? If you have been.........Well, yes excersice is great for fibro. But to a degree. You know your own body and it's limits. But usually we start off slow, and mild. Working up to a fairly even paced excersice until the old body can handle things. Everyone is different, and we all know our own limits so it's an individual thing. But it sounds like you might be in a flare up, so my advice would be to back off for ahwile, and do only very light stuff.
Take care,
Sid

Thanks sid, i havent been diagnosed yet, im going to the specialist next week. All my training involves resistance weight training as well as eating a high amount of protein. Im glad i can still train as i am competing next year. All my symptoms are indicating fibro, so im pretty sure thats what i have.
Any other commens will be extremely helpful

hey bluelakelady
Its a pleasure to meet you to. Thank you so much, i really needed to hear that i can still go to the gym. I will be competing, my next compeition is early next year. I have a lot of work to do as i have been out of the gym for a month now. I have been getting headaches (my temple area and jaw area muscles hurt), im scared if i lift as heavy as i do i could make thing worse, what do you think?
Thanks again

hi mrm,
when you do your workout focus on keeping your tongue gently resting on the roof of your mouth with your teeth not meeting. that should help the pain. i learned that from a tmj doc. it works. we tend to clench our jaw when we are in pain. for sure during a workout. so try that and let me know.
get back to it and i hope you win your competition. just getting there makes you a winner in my mind.
peace,

Mr. Muscle:
Go to the gym! I body build as well, and it makes me feel great and helps me feel like I am in control (because I am). You may have to adapt some of the things you do in the gym, or shorten the time you spend building. If you have backlash from doing a particular pattern, move on to something else until you find the right combination to keep your body in peak condition.
Blessings,
Kirstee

Thank you so much bluelakelady and Kirstee. I just did my first work out in a month and my chest is really sore, i feel good. I will slowly work my my back into it. I have a question, people than body build grow when they sleep. Lately i feel my sleeping pattern has changed, i dont feel i have been getting that deep sleep. Do you feel this could effect my recovery and growth?
Thanks again

Keep going! Read "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Fibromyalgia" by Dr. Paul St. Amand. This book will give good information about managing fibromyalgia. You can expect backlash from doing excercise, but IF you can continue, keep going.
A lot of people with fibromyalgia do not sleep well, so what you are experiencing is just more of the nonsense that comes with this condition. Are you able to catch a catnap during the day - maybe in your car at lunch?

Mr Muscle
As everyone has been saying.....Excersice is good for you... I say "Listen to your body." If I was hurting beyond what I normally feel, I would back off with some of the weights. Maybe reducing and then build back up to your normal lifting weight. But again..........YOU know your body the best, and how you feel when you push it.

Thanks Kirstee, im at uni studying, so im sure i can try fit a nap during lunch here and there. Thanks Sid, i am going to stop trainining chest to i see a rhema(specialist) this friday. Ive been to 3 doctors one things i have chronic fatigue syndrom, but does that mean i have to always be tired?
The other thinks i have fibromyalgia, and the thirs thinks its not fibromyalgia because my ESR levels were low, he told me if you had fibro they would be low. I will tell you my story, nearly 2 months ago i hurt my neck in gym, had ct and stuff and things looks normal, pain started to spread, from neck to back, to hand, to arms, to head, to legs. This week i began getting headaches and a sore through, not sure if the sore throat is coencidental. Pain has been spreading and the pain is located from the chart 11/18, i have more than 11/18. Some days i think im gettng better, other days i think its getting worse. Sleep has been disturbed (maybe because i cant stop thinking about this). I took a months of gym and now im back at it, i was taking protein and creatine and doctor advised me to stop. I dont really feel fatigued, im just eager to get better so i can train in gym. Becuse the muscle pain has went to head thats how i get head aches. I dont like taking drugs at all, but sometimes i have to. What do you guys think? Could it be a virus? I also get morning stiffness on neck which doesnt last for too long.

Its is good that you are getting medical advice to rule out anything serious. However, to me it sounds like you have myofascial pain syndrome. I find this likely given your history of bodybuilding. Essentially, the stress of the bodybuidling on your body combined with another aggravating factor (perhaps inadequate nutrition) may have caused a network of "trigger points" to form in your body. Luckily, this easily managed by some specialized massage. I would recommed Claire Davies book - you can find it on the big internet book sites or at the big bookstores.
You can test this out yourself quite quickly. You say that your jaw muscle has been sore. Insert your thumb into back of your mouth right below that area where the peanut butter gets stuck. You will feel the strip of the jaw muscle at this back area. With some firm pressure squeeze the muscle in between your thumb and your forefinger. If you have a trigger point here this squeezing will produce some pain - it should radiate out towards the eye and sinus area. If you do have pain you have found your answer. Hold for a minute and this should release the trigger point and immediately ease the pain. However, you need to deactivate all trigger points in the region to alleviate your symptoms. That information is avialable on the internet.
Your problem of course could be other things but trigger points are so easy to test for - why not try it.

Thanks for that possible help. Maybe i do have myofascial pain syndrome, but the pain i have in my face is also spread out all over my body. I will explain how the muscles feel. They use to be all smooth, now they have groubed together, for example when you drive on a smooth road then face a speed bump, my muscles have become like the speed bump, they group up and become sore. Its spreading all over my body. I will try find that book.
Thanks again
Also is the syndrome reversable??? to use this trigger point method, do i press against all te sore muscles all over my body?
What does everyone else think?

Mr Muscle,
I feel so bad for you right now. It's the NOT knowing that is driving you a little crazy.:dizzy: Try and take a deep breath, relax, and try to calm down. The anxiety you are going thru right now could be causing the muscles to become really tight. (Like in the fight or flight mode)
You could have fibro, it could be myofascial syndrome, it could be Epstien Barr. It could be lots of things..... The important thing is to stay calm, and get a DX. I know that neither is going to be easy for you. It wasn't easy for any of us either.
Right now you need to take care of your body, and your health. Take some time off from weight training, let your body rest as far as that is concerned. I am sure that there are other things that you can do at the gym without straining your already strained muscles. Eat a healthy diet, and try taking calcium and magnesium. I take 500mg of Cal, and 400mg of Mag. Maybe Bluelake can help you with a proper dosage for your age. This is ONLY my advice, I am not TELLING you what to do. It's what I do when I am feeling as bad as you.
I just went through almost 2 months of swollen lymph nodes in my neck, sore throat, sores on the roof of my mouth, turning my neck was almost imposible, and a mass in my neck(that turned out to be a VERY large lymph node. Turns out that I have a STAPH infection in my throat. I am on antibiotics now so hopefully I will start feeling better. Anyway, I stopped working out for the last 2 weeks, because I really felt awful, so as soon as I fell better I will return to working out again.
Hang in there!!!!! Keep in touch with the board, and many people will be here to offer help, or a shoulder if you need it.

I'm amazed. I trained for years, and my old rheumatologist told me that it had probably worsened my condition, and no more weight training. I didn't think to check that theory with my new rheumy, who I think might actually know what he is doing. A friend of mine who is a personal trainer, massage therapist, and occupational therapist tech, recently told me that was a load of crap and I would be better off training. I'm glad to see that advice has been reaffirmed by this thread. I can't wait to get my quads back.

Hi Mr. Muscle....Fibro and Lyme are so close in symptoms that some people are mis-diagnoised....have you been tested for Lyme? Do you think it is possible that you might have Lyme? they both are a pain to treat....
Hope you get to feeling well soon!

hey jojo thanks for your replies
My symptoms first started when i hurt my neck in the gym. It started of with my neck and left side of scapula region on back (anatomy is bad sorry). Then it moved to right side of my back, then to my arms, legs face (everywhere i had muscle). I then started to get a sore throat which still hasnt left after nearly 2 weeks. Ive been going through this for 6 weeks now.
I also get up very early now which is strange as i used to always sleep in.
But i dont feel fatigued, im eager to get back into gym, do you think it sounds like fibro?
Thanks so much

hey jojo
i went to rheaumy and he doesnt think i have fibro. He said just continue living as normal but make sure i dont train too much, he thinks this could be the cause of muscle pain. But i still have sore throats and sleep isnt the best. Thought i would give an update. Hope everyone is feeling better... I will continue to post and read up on fibro...

mr muscle, i just like you!!!!!!!
my pains started 10 months ago after weight training as well!! (male).
we are the only 2 people in the world i think.. (if looking at the "fibro" group of patients) that this is the way their pains started.
i have been to rheumatologist, who told me i have fibro(you said he pushed your spots and it hurt, mine too).
how is your pain now?
ive been to a massager a few days ago, and he told me that it looks wired for "fibro".
i could have point in alot of places from head to toe, and say "it hurts here, it hurts less here, more here... etc" also he did a little trigger point therapy and i notest that after, the fibro tender points in the collar bone(next to it above the chest) was less sore(this point was one of the points the rheumatologist touched and i cream, now it seems much less sensitive, and thats wired.
i thought the fibro tender points are always there when pushed, even if they dont put pains regulary.
he did another massage yesterday, and i dont feel much good now..i feel kinda itchy pain, and i also have much back pains(mostly when i breath), but it doesnt look like the regular pains(not sure though), i fell a week ago...
it also feel like my all body is hang out(not sure how you say it, like after you workout much).
i really miss the gym, actually it started 10 months ago, and it spreaded all over as the time went by.
i tried to get back to the gym after i stoped because of the pains, and got back 4 months ago, trained for 2-3 months, and stoped 1-2 months ago and lost again everything i earned.....thats annoying.
im not sure what there is there, but our story(workouts) seem very similar......
although when the pain first started, i didnt do any heavy compound exercises like squat or deadlift but only benchpress.
men.... i really dont know what to do, and the pain can be very painfull at times.
hope it will go away fast.
btw- i tested for vitamin d and i have kinda big deficiency.
i heared that this can cause severe joint pains.... i started taking supps today.
maybe you should try to test for it...
oh, and just a question, how much do you weight lean? you take it seriously i guess......it also hurts me much that i cant train like a regular person without pains, or knowing when i can train regulary again..
good luck men

hey talper
I think your vitamin d deficiency may be the problem...
I am weighing 87 kg, im 5'9 and dont have much body fat. Now that i have started to train again i feel better, i am still tender and a bit sore but i think i am just going to keep going to the gym. Fibro or not im just going to try force it, my pain isnt as bad as before (maybe weight training is helping)
all the best

men, you know what so funny?
i could train perfectly fine!! i did squat and deadlift 3 months ago!!
then for a reason i stopped for the second time since i introduced to the gym(in 10 months) and lost it all.
i was(and still kinda) depressed at the prospect of having fibromyalgia(read all the thing women in my forum wrote), didnt left the house much and was(still kinda am) on the computer searching for solution day and night.
the pains got much much worse after i stopped and just sat without moving much!!!! lol.......men, you dont know how much i want to train.
im the unluckiest dude in the workout buisness, because i dont know anyone else who got this kind of pains after working out for a few months.
i hope the pains will go away in the next months, cause i cant wait to train like a human without thiniking "am i doing it for nothing and again i will stop after 3 months?"
im only 18 yo and im sure untill i will be 20+(if not sooner) i will forget i even had pains, and train my *** of.
why do you think my problem is vitamin d?? do you know vitamin d? i heared it can cause it and i have a deficiency, how can i know if this is my problem? (started taking 2000iu of d)
thanks
