Hi, I've been exercising, I cut out breads and soda, I eat really healthy and I can't lose anything either. I will lose 3 or 3 and 1/2 pounds and just gain it back again, this has been an ongoing cycle with me and I am very down and frustrated by it. I don't know what to do, I guess we need to just keep at it and maybe in the long run we will lose the weight, but I know how depressing this is. Good Luck to you.

yes, please pass them on. I think it is all due to this hormonal imbalance, but I just can't understand if I eat less, I should lose weight. Could this be due to anything else??

I'm feeling fat and frumpy! I'm only 40, but have gained in two years approximately 15lbs. It's driving me crazy. No wonder so many women turn to anorexia etc. What can I do besides the lifestyle change, it doesn't seem to help right now.:dizzy: :dizzy: :dizzy:

I was having trouble losing weight. I exercised every day and I cut out sweets and snacks. I tried the sugar buster diet, but I did not last very long. During the past three years I have been getting cysts in my breast. I was tired of having to have the mamograms, ultrasounds, and biopsies. Always worried that it was cancer. I read where 70% of the people who went off coffee, tea, soft drinks and chocolate for 6 months had their cysts disappear. I decided to do this too, even though I am a big tea drinker. Well the weight I had been trying to lose came off and has stayed off. All I can think of is that it was the tea because I had already stopped eating any sweets. I basically only drink water or milk. I have since gotten lazy and rarely exercise and I can still maintain my weight. I even cheat and have a lemon cookie or bowl of vanilla ice cream. I go for my six month mammogram in January. I hope it shows no more cysts.

I too, were where you are, two years ago. It didn't matter what I did, I could not lose weight. I knew basically nothing about menopause, though I was almost 50 at the time. I went to a doctor and was given a diet to follow. My husband lost 8 lbs in two weeks, I lost 0! A big fat nothing. The male pig doctor told me though I had totally changed what I ate and was walking daily, I obviously was still eating too much!
After one year of not losing weight, I made my next appointment with his nurse practioner. She told me about bio-identical hormones. She explained to me that I must be estrogen dominant, which meant that my body was holding on to ever calorie it took in. I had a perfect spare tire around my waist that would not leave no matter what. I hated how it made me look. I had a salivia test, which indeed did show I had too much estrogen, not enought testesterone and progestron. I have been on the bio identical hormones for 5 months and have almost lost all of the gut I had gotten. They have been a miracle for me. I need to be retested and see if they need to be adjusted. Insurance of course, does not cover them, but they are only 24 dollors a month. Well worth it for me. Don't get me wrong, the weight is coming off slowly, but it is coming off. I feel better, I was able to reduce my blood pressure meds, and I know longer have the desire to kill everyone that makes me mad. In addition to a decrease in your sex drive and sense of well being, low hormones also cause your thyroid function to decrease, which causes your body to flood itself with cholesteral in an attempt to pick up for the thyroid! God, I wish I had known this stuff ten years ago! Never give up looking for relief. Some doctors are such pigs. They don't care what is really wrong with you, they just want to write prescriptions for statins and send you on your way.
If you do not know a doctor in your area that prescribes bio-identical hormones, look in the phone book for compounding pharmacys, they should be able to refer you to a doctor. Good luck ladies.

Middle, I really needed to read your post today. I can relate to exercising and not losing an ounce. I went through a period of time where I was exercising three to four days out of the week and I did not shed a pound. Yes, I was firming up in a few places, but my stomach fat was not budging.
Recently I've lost about ten pounds with little effort, which made me very happy, but now I'm wondering if it could be my thyroid. My second ultrasound confirmed again that my thyroid is enlarged, but my doctor doesn't want to do anything...no additional blood work or medication. Oops, let me get back on the subject :).
What combination of bioidentical hormones are you taking that helped reduce your stomach? I'm taking compounded progesterone and dhea.
What is reassuring is that I've spoken with other women who were able to shed this weight once they reached menopause. Now, they did not say it was easy, but at least they were able to exercise, change their eating pattern, and actually reap the benefit of their effort. :)

I do not walk or do any programs. I just do 1200 to 1300 calories a day and count every single bit that goes in my mouth. If I want a Milky Way I have it but count the calories. I am losing wonderful and am happy as a lark. Steak Escape and fries with cheese and bacon can take up close to 800 calories. Live on diet soda with an equal amount of water but life is good. Each has their own style. THis is mine.
