Hi ladies
i just wondered if any of you have tried robitissun or a similar cough medicine to help with TTC? i know its suppose to help both increase and thin CM. I only ever notice one lot of EWCM each month and thinking about it, its always quite thick and lumpy (sorry tmi) so wondering if that could be making things hard for me too.
Im from the uk so we dont have robitissun as i know its a us brand but ive bought the equivalent which contains the active ingredient (cant remember the name but know it begins with a G!) I decided to get it as have a very bad chesty cough at the moment so thought i might aswell get something which helps with TTC!
just wondered if anyone has tried this and conceived with it or noticed any improvements with CM?

I've tried it. It does increase the amount of CM, but not nearly as much as Vitex. I have 4 full day of tons of EWCM with Vitex and only had moderately more for a couple of with the Robitussin.
Good luck!

I tried Guifenesin and didn't notice a lot of EWCM. I also bought pill form of guifenesin and didn't notice either. Then I tried vitex, and like Goldenmom, I noticed more CM. Not as much as I'd like, but more than my usual.
Hope you get over your cold soon.

Hi ladies,
thank you for all of your replies!
im also taking vitex this month, no CM to report yet but am only on CD10. I really needed this cough stuff for my cough so thought i may aswell get one that would be beneficial to TTC too! so will see what happens!
whatishappening, thats great that you got your BFP when you took this stuff! maybe it will be worth the horrible taste afterall!thank you for the dust!!

What is Vitex? A Pill? Where do you get it. Sorry so many questions, I just never have very much CM. If this helps I would love to try it.

I also don't notice much CM. But my cycles are very regular so I think I am ovulating normally. Actually now that I think about it I do notice more CM but I never found it to resemble EW's! I am thinking of trying Robutussen(sp?) but cold medicine really has a bad effect on me and I don't like taking it when I have a cold never mind when I don't.

Sophie, vitex is a herbal extract, also known as angus castus and chasteberry. It helps regulate menstrual cycles and induce ovulation. you should be able to get it from any health/holistic store or online. its available in pill or liquid form

 Hi girls! I am looking to start taking Vitex, but I can't find it anywhere here. I live in a small town and all we have is Dillons and Wal-mart, they didn't have it at either place. Is there a certain store where you all got it? I can travel to a different town to purchse it, I prefer not to purchase online. Does Evening Primrose Oil do the same thing that Vitex does? I found the Evening Primrose here but didn't buy it for I wasn't sure if it would get me the same results. Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks :)

I purchased my vitex at a health food store. I hear Wild Oats is a nation chain health food store. You may want to get some info on where the nearest sore is located.
Sophie- I started a thread a while back on fertility herbs titled "Fertiliy herbs- need direction". There was a lot of info on it. I'll bump it up so you can read up on vitex.

Sweetpea ~
You asked about EPO (Evening Primrose Oil) and it works differently than the Vitex.
~ EPO is reputed to improve the quality of cervical mucus - or make the cervical mucus more fertile.
~ Vitex is more for helping to regulate a woman's menstrual cycle and/or helps in promoting ovulation.
I'm currently taking both. I have them both in a pill version and take 1000mg of the Vitex/day, and 2000mg of the EPO/day. I got pregnant on this previously after only 2 months, and am currently ttc again in the hopes of baby#3. I also take my temps. every morning with a basal thermometer and chart them so I can see more clearly if I'm ovulating. I happen to be lucky in that I can feel when I'm ovulating, I usually also buy an Ovulation Predictor Kit (OPK) to verify that O is taking place.
Oh yeah.... I also drink green tea as well every day. I read that too, helps in ttc.
I tried taking the cough syrup when ttc #2, but did not find that to be too helpful, although some of my family/friends have claimed it's helped them.....who knows???
Good Luck to everyone!!!!

Zuzu - do you stop taking the EPO once you ovulate? Because I read online that you should only take it from cycle start to ovulation due to the fact that it shouldn't be taken during pregnancy? My second question is do know if you should stop taking the Vitex too? Or can you take that all the time? I just want to make sure I am doing this correctly. Thanks!

I dont know about EPO as ive not heard that thats bad to take during pregnancy, but i know with vitex some people recommend stopping it once you've O'd just incase you conceive because its not safe to take it during pregnancy. I spoke to my doctor about it and he recommended taking it all month unless you discover you are pregnant as he said it wouldnt work as effectively only be taken for half the month. But its a personal choice and i know lots of women who only take it half cycle.

E1979 ~
I take the EPO from CD1 until I ovulate, then stop. If AF comes, then I take it again the same way. As a personal choice...the Vitex I take everyday, because if it can take up to 3 months to become effective...if you stop mid-cycle then you lost it's effectiveness. If I know I'm pregnant, which is what happened to me last year, then I stopped taking it right away. I don't mean to sound as if I get pregnant all the time, I just mean that as soon as you think you might be pregnant, stop taking the Vitex, because it can cause miscarriage, if taken during pregnancy. Also, if you take the cough syrup, you should start taking that a week prior to O, which typically would be right after you finish your AF, and only take it until O, then stop once you know you are ovulating.
