View Full Version : Need helping finding an oncologist...DFW area...

My dad (stage 3) has been in the hosp since last week's colon resection. The oncologist was sent in yesterday and has been by today as well and my mom says "there's just something about him"...she's feeling uncomfortable. He's offered NO options, and has already told her he is absolutely NOT going to work with them about taking vitamins, etc. He won't allow it. I told her we need to find a new oncologist. I've not dealt with oncs before, but I have dealt with allergists, endocrinologists, opthalmologists, gastroenterologists, etc. I've dealt with LOTS of drs in the last few years and the one BIG thing I've learned is that if you are at ALL uneasy about the dr...find a new one. I can't imagine that being any different with oncology.

Soooo....now I am trying to find other oncologist options. We live in Decatur, TX and would LOVE it if we could find one who could arrange chemo treatment at the North Texax Cancer Center at Wise(county), which is about 3min from the house, but we could also travel to Ft Worth or Dallas or somewhere in the DFW metroplex. Denton, TX would be even closer than DFW area.

I've contacted the Cancer Center at Wise, and they gave me this list:

Edward Middleman
James Mackey
Maryada Reddy
D.K. Wang (this is the one that has been in to talk w/ Mom and Dad)
Greg Garrett (radiation)

Does anyone know anything about any of these drs? Or have any suggestions or ideas for other oncologists in the North Central Texas area? Any help is most appreciated!! =)

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,

My husband has had both of his liver resections done at Medical City Dallas. You might give them a call and see if they can recommend an oncologist. It is about a 6 hour trip from where we live, so we don't use one from that area, but the surgeon is very good and I think they would definately know some good oncologist. I agree, if your mom is feeling the least bit uncomfortable with this oncologist, then find another one. Even tho your dad will be the one taking the treatments ya'll need one that your Mom can talk to, because there will be times when she will have to be the advocate for your Dad. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.:) dee

P.S. You might also contact MD Anderson in Houston. They have oncologist all over who are in daily contact with them.
